These are the bits I use in close quarters to keep me from having the breakout the right-angle adapter for my impact. Sometimes a couple of inches less length can make all the difference. I used to make my own years ago by cutting down 6-inch bits that had damaged shafts, but I would have to make the hex and quick lock groove by hand on the bench grinder, which was a pain for used bits that would usually only last for a few holes then need to be replaced. For the last few years though, I've been able to just buy them already made, so decided to try the Bosch/Freud Shorty bits. I already use the Bosch Daredevil bits, and these are just a shorter version. Very nice bits overall.

These are high quality bits that do a great job boring through 2x4's but they're a little tricky to use at first. Apply a little pressure to get it started and then just let the bit pull itself through the wood. Hold on to the drill tightly as these bits generate a surprisingly high amount of torque and will twist the drill right out of your hand if you're not ready for it.The package suggested drilling a pilot hole so I did so before starting on each hole and it worked well but probably isn't entirely necessary.Moderate to low drill speed seems to work best. The length is perfect for getting into tight spots like between framing joists. I've been using these with a right-angle drill (DEWALT DCD740B) and had great results.

Short is ideal for close quarters drilling. I used them for drilling wire holes in studs. The tip shape is different to the normal standard spade bit, it seems to be a very engineered design (no big surprise there it is Bosch!)Performance - they dig into wood like they really mean it. The larger size may actually prove to be too much bit for a cordless drill because it can actually dig in so deep, hard & aggressively.I like them & will buy again if I ever break them, but unless I hit some nails, I doubt that I will ever need to replace them until I wear them out.Disclaimer: No one has ever given me anything for free off Amazon, as I am apparently neither: Funny enough, verbose enough, factual enough, post enough pictures of 'it' in action or I simply don't buy enough stuff every year to warrant anyone wanting to try to get my opinion. So basically what you get is the unadulterated truth as I see it :-)

Wow, these are really aggressive! Be careful how you use them where you need a clean hole. You have to back them. The leads screw will pull you right through the workbench if you're not careful. I bought the stubbies specifically for close work, and they're great for that. But they're too violent for nice work—stick to Forstners or hole saws for cleaner edges.

I was in search of some spade bits just like this. When I saw the Bosch offering I couldn't go wrong. The price was great and delivery was super fast. The fit very well into all of my DeWalt tools and absolutely tear through anything I've put them through. I was running some cable in the basement and needed the stubby bits to fit my drill and bit between the rafters. I'm very pleased with this and even after the entire cabling job of about 100 holes the bits are still in great shape and ready for the next job.

I bought this set for the occasional times that my standard-length Daredevil bits won't fit somewhere. These are 1-1/2" shorter overall than the standard length, and protrude just 3-1/2" beyond the face of my impact's chuck, to the tip of the spur. The Daredevil bits are fast, aggressive bits, and do require a powerful drill to run them, particularly in the larger diameters. They are awesome in both my brushless 1/2" hammer drill and impact driver. Highly recommended!

If you are drilling through wood in tight spaces, buy these. Just hit the 'Buy' button now and finish my review while you wait for shipping. These are the exact same as full-length Daredevils, just shorter. Great for more room in the tool bag and more room in the studbay or other obstruction. The only drawback I can think of (and this is a stretch) is shared by the full-length bits as well, and that is they tend to drill too fast. Once the bit is started, pull back a little instead of pushing into the hole. Either your wrist will thank you, or your drill will.

These are exactly what the construction industry has needed for a long time. These will drill holes faster and cleaner than any other bit I have used.A great price for a top of the line product. Thanks to Bosch and Amazon!

These things are amazing, they pull the drill right threw the wood, finishing my basement and the difference is unreal

Bought these to use in a tight space where my existing bits would not fit. These bits have a screw to initiate the hole being drilled. Unfotunately the screw feature aggressively pulls the bit into the wood and then the main cutting edge jams in the wood. Eventually had to use a standard drill bit to make a hole large enough to not allow the screw tip to emgage in the wood. Not recommended.
