Electrical wire carries an electric current or grounds an electrical device. The amount of current a wire can carry is proportional to its size (gauge), and the wire is generally sheathed with coatings and coverings to insulate and protect it from moisture, chemicals, heat, and abrasion. Copper is the primary material for electrical wire, but alloys are sometimes used to increase its strength or its resistance to chemicals and the environment. Wire can be composed of a single strand or of many smaller strands, depending on its use, and is typically annealed to improve its ductility. Electrical wire is commonly used in industrial, electronic, and automotive applications.

I bought this as practice wire to experiment with designs and improve my wrapping and weaving techniques. It is a great wire and the per foot cost lets me play around and try things without cost worry. Successful completed pieces are still wearable, with or without finish treatments such as patinas or oxidation. Unsuccessful pieces can be cannibalized or simply discarded. Brass and copper have been used for jewelry for thousands of years. I can hammer work this wire and anneal it. Craft wire finishes are not always durable enough to survive much hammering.

The wire is great quality. But its almost impossible to get the plastic coating off without damaging the roll or the wire.

This 16 gauge solid brass wire is just what I was looking for, however it appears to have been wound onto its spool by hand leaving uneven bends in the wire. The plastic wrap that they covered the wire with was also extremely difficult to remove - it was way too thick, tightly bound and appears to have been made out of Kevlar.

Great to use when making wire jewelry. The only drawback is the amount of time that it take to remove the plastic wrapping that it comes in.
