I'm a Fuji medium format shooter and normally use Singh-Ray filters for my cameras, but I was in a bind as I was leaving on an extended road trip and have just acquired a Leica camera with the 28mm lens. I needed a filter to protect the front element of the lens so I bought this filter. The color (or lack thereof) is excellent. Clear. Filter has the beveled edges so it's easy to put on and take off. Came with a cleaning cloth, and well it just works. When I wasn't using one of my Singh-Ray 77mm filters on my 49mm Leica lens via an adapter this clear filter was on there. Since it's so good, I'm now looking at the Breakthrough 49mm Polarizer for the Leica even though I own seven polarizers from other companies.

Do you have that favorite lens that should be performing just a little better than it is? It might be the filter. The image is all about the glass, and when we commit to that idea we have to remember that before the lens can do its thing all the light has to pass through the protective filter we have on the front. Breakthrough uses excellent glass and top quality coatings for maximum possible light transmission eWith minimum possible disruption of image. Combine this with easy-to-grip rings and smooth high quality machines threads in metal rings and you have the best quality protection filter out there. I use them exclusively now. And of course I like that they’re all made here in the USA so supply and quality control are never an issue.

Threaded on my lens easily. Photos look good with the filter. The filter is easy to grip. Package arrived right on schedule.

I'll start with the important aspects first: The filter appears to be well designed and built from every outward observable characteristic. The filter threads onto my lenses without any hesitation or grinding. The lens cap secures to the filter as well as it does to the lens. The low profile design ensures that the filter doesn't create any vignetting or otherwise alter the lens field of view. From the very unscientific tests that I tried, the filter's anti-reflective coatings appear to be effective as I was not able to detect any noticeable flare or ghosting with very bright objects in the field of view.My nitpicks are actually not with the filter itself. The retail packaging wouldn't qualify for Amazon's frustration-free packaging designation. Despite the fancy carton, the PITA factor of getting it to separate was significant enough that I'm calling it out (hint: add a couple semicircle finger cut-outs to make the two halves easier to separate). Fortunately, inside was a reusable storage case, making this "frustration" a one-time deal. The complementary lens cloth was a thoughtful addition, unfortunately mine was contaminated with paper fibers from the retail box, making me question whether I should even consider using it. It probably should get packaged in a small bag to prevent this from happening.Based on the design and quality, I definitely will consider future purchases of this brand.

Sure, it's a little pricey, but you get a few things for the money. Unique weather proof coating, wonderful build quality and best of all, the super slim profile. I hate anything that makes cameras any larger than they already are. This especially applies to DSLR's and large format cameras. I purchased this filter to protect the lens of my Plaubel Makina 67 medium format film camera. I am happy to report that the X2 filter is absolutely wonderful. It looks like it's part of the camera! Thanks to the slim design, of course. I do have one small issue with the filter glass. It may have something to do with the unique Nanotec coating. It's a pain to clean! I tried cleaning the darn thing with soft non abrasive towels and water, but the glass clings to dust and small particles way too easily. I even tried using a brand new Spudz micro fiber camera lens cleaner (best quality micro fiber on the market IMO), and still, there's dust and particles smeared across the glass. I think the Nanotec coating creates some type of friction which results in static causing tiny particles to cling to the glass. Sounds crazy, but that's the only explanation I can come up with. BUT, other than that, I love the filter...once it's cleaned, of course. :)

I've bought three of these to put on different lenses and I'm very happy with them. They don't seem to interfere with image quality at all and are very nice for the price of about $50.

I recently dropped my camera and it landed on the front edge of the lens and I heard glass break. I thought it was the lens' inside. I picked it up and shook it a few times and hear d a rattle. I thought My new $2000 dollar lens was toast. So I picked it up turned on auto focus and and pushed the release button halfway down and it worked - whew!!!. After closer inspection I found that the UV filter I had on the front of the lens took the entire impact and save the front glass. So I am a firm believer in UV Filters for protection. This filter is great! I really like the notches on the outer ring It makes putting it on and off so much easier. It also has a 25 year warranty instead of a 1 year warranty the other manufacturers provide. These might be small things but that's why I switched from B&H filters. With Breakthrough Photography, I get equivalent quality or better and a longer warranty. this is a really nice filter. I also have an X4 CPL which is awesome as well. Breakthrough Photography thanks for going the extra mile to produce a top of the line product. It really shows.

Great filter, the quality of workmanship and the materials used beat all hoye filters, the glass used in this filter is perfect, zero light flares and coloration, the edges of the photos without softening. I know that I will stay with this company for a long time, and buy other products. 100% recommend :)
