The hammer head on the hammer I received looks slightly different from the one in the listing's photos since mine is painted black and the one in the listing's photos is brushed steal. This hammer is designed for masonry, breaking rocks, chipping bricks, and similar jobs. The hammer is not heavy, yet not lightweight. I expected higher quality steel, but it's still okay for light to medium duty tasks. The handle is made of fiberglass which helps absorb shocks and provides a comfortable nonslip grip.

This bricklayer's hammer has been a fantastic tool for my recent home project. The 20 oz weight is perfect—it’s heavy enough to deliver force but still easy to handle. This hammer is perfect for an occasional job. The steel, while hard enough, is not quite the high carbon grade steel that will withstand significant pounding and stresses without some amount of deformation. That said, given the price, it is certainly good enough. It is also certainly good enough to crack an occasional brick or a paver or what have you. I also use this hammer as a secondary hammer for some carpenter work I do, and it works well enough for that purpose too.

I don’t usually do any masonry but do dabble with rocks and such. The hammer feels good in my hand and has a nice balance.
