The Bueyfolt 20 Packs Metal Stud Shoes measure .0375" Inches in thickness per my digital caliper. The code requirement for protection of pipes is steel a minimum of .0575".Simply put, you'll likely fail an inspection using these plates.Otherwise, they're well-built. As for adequate structural strength for compensating for the removed wood, your inspector or an engineer or architect should make the determination.

These are nice and sturdy stud shoes. I'd feel comfortable using them in my house.They are about 1/16 thick. I don't think they're galvanized, I can't scrape any finish off.I don't think I'd want to go through a structural inspection with these. I think they need some kind of engineering listing printed on them. They have no printing at all.Overall, I think they're great an I'm going to use them where there are big penetrations. If you want to be super conservative, I suppose you could use one on each side of the stud.I think they're a good bargain.
