About this item

  • Bulka banneton holds 750g of dough: Craving a loaf of tangy sourdough? Can’t wait to make that new Italian focaccia recipe or try your hand at the perfect rye? This sourdough proofing basket holds up to 750g of your favorite dough and ensures its shape holds strong during the final rise. Perfect for crafting pillow-soft bread without worrying about deflation!
  • Thick walls keep temperature consistent: No one likes sad, uneven bread that screams “my baker didn’t cook me right!” Luckily for even the newest bread makers, our thick-walled bread rising basket provides all-over insulation, keeping temperatures consistent while you masterfully ferment and proof beautiful artisan bread.
  • Create gorgeous, even crusts: Longing to hear the crackle of warm, crusty bread fresh out of the oven? Create airy, golden-crusted loaves with Bulka sourdough basket that evenly absorbs moisture for dramatically improved breathability and taste. Once you’ve proved your loaves with a Bulka bread rising basket, you’ll never want to go back!
  • Made from eco-friendly wood pulp: From tree to table, our bread bannetons harness the power and beauty of nature without harming it in the process. Sustainably sourced from local German forests, our spruce wood pulp bannetons are more eco-friendly than rattan products made from rainforest palms. Plus, you’ll love that our Bulka bread proofing bowls are 100% biodegradable and chemical-free!
  • Easy to remove and clean: Difficult cleanup? Not on our watch! With a non-stick texture and larger surface area, wet dough is less likely to get stuck in grooves of Bulka bread banneton. No need to spend extra time washing, either. Just dry your bread proofer in a warm, well-ventilated area (or in residual oven heat after baking) and brush off leftover flakes with a stiff brush!

  • Dough sticks when the banneton isn’t floured enough. Dust it generously with flour (gluten-free flour works best) to ensure a clean release and a perfect shape.

  • Definitely not! After each use, brush off excess flour and ensure it dries completely—moisture invites mold. Drying in the oven with residual heat at 250°F is the gold standard for keeping your banneton clean and mold-free! Never wash it with water!

  • Nope, it’s crafted from premium, food-safe wood pulp! Unlike cardboard, wood pulp is durable, breathable, and perfect for proofing dough. It helps regulate moisture for better results, giving your bread that perfect crust and shape every time.

  • Mold thrives in moisture! Always dry your banneton completely after use, ideally using the oven's residual heat, and store it in a well-ventilated spot. If mold does form, it's best to dispose of the basket to keep your baking safe and hygienic.

  • Moisture is the enemy! Always ensure your banneton is thoroughly dried after each use. The residual heat method is the best basket's friend. Then store it in a dry and well-ventilated area—this is crucial to prevent mold and keep it bake-ready!

So I got this a bit ago and waited to write a review since I didn’t want to review it before I used it for a few loaves.I’ll keep it simple.Function:This banneton works better than the normal cloth lined ones. My loaves come out super clean, not a single bit of sticking yet. I’ve gotten away with using less rice flour than normal as well.Maintenance:It’s pretty easy to maintain, I just keep it near my oven’s hot air vents when baking so it dries out. Then store it on top of my fridge. I also brush out extra flour when I feel like it. Pretty simple. Keep it dry and dust it off, that’s all.Capacity and shape:I do like 750g loaves and they fit well. I’m sure a little less and a little more will also work. But yeah the estimated size in the description checks out. As far as the shape of the loaf goes, it’s pretty much what you would expect. No issues here.Got a bit of money to spend on a nicer proofing basket? Go for it, I prefer it over normal cloth and wood ones.

This is the banneton I have used. I bake bread every weekend and I have tried both the long one and the round one. Worked better than my previous ones. The material does not stick to the dough naturally so you need very little flour.I love that is a solid piece and has no holes so I don’t make a mess when I sprinkle with flour. It absorbs moisture so it keeps the dough in a perfect environment. I proof in the fridge overnight and all my loafs have come out great.I wish I have gotten this earlier.

I enjoy baking bread, particularly sourdough. After years of using a round, linen-lined rattan banneton, I decided to buy an oval one in a size that better matched my Challenger Bread Pan. There are countless variations of the same thing, all from the places where tropical materials grow. They do a perfectly adequate job for a low price, and the linen is not that hard to rinse out and air dry overnight, but I wanted to try something different. I came across the Bulka made in Germany -- where they know a thing or two about bread -- from spruce pulp, and I decided to try something that seemed to be a vote for quality over price. By my 2nd proof, I was convinced that the brotform (loaf shape/form) works better than a lined basket. My experience is that there is no need for dusting with rice flour before an overnight proof. The dough releases readily enough. After an overnight refrigerator proof there is a bit of a skin where the dough contacted the wood, which makes it super easy to make a score for the bread to open up during the oven spring part of the bake. The "hardest" part of cleanup is keeping an eye on the oven thermometer to put the banneton in once the temperature has dropped to 250 degrees F or so. There rarely is anything to dust off, but drying out in the cooling oven does seem like a good food safety step.My bakes suggest that the claim of "superior crumb and crust" is truth in advertising, not a false promise. (See photos.) I haven't changed my recipes, just my proofing basket's material and shape. I usually make 400g to 500g loaves one at a time, yet I bought the 750g basket for the groove pattern. I am really pleased with my purchase and am considering whether to buy another one in the smaller size because it has no pattern and may be good for certain yeasted loaves, like ciabatta. If you can spare a few extra dollars for a quality product, you should give Bulka a try!

I’ve been using the Bulka Oval 750g Groove Banneton Bread Proofing Basket for a while now, and I couldn’t be more impressed with its quality. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and it’s held up beautifully even after multiple uses. I love how sturdy and well-made it feels. It hasn’t shown any signs of wear and still looks brand new, which speaks volumes about its durability. One important thing to note – this basket should not get wet, so be sure to keep it dry during use. Despite that, it has been a game-changer for my bread-making process. The grooves in the basket give my dough a lovely texture, and it creates the perfect shape for baking. Highly recommend this proofing basket to anyone looking for a high-quality, reliable tool for their bread-baking needs!

Amazing quality. Great thorough instructions. Sourdough is a new adventure for me. Although you can make a tasty loaf without this banneton it adds to the culinary experience. Part of the “trimmings”. Great for gifts to a friend or family member to encourage their baking journey.

Wasn’t sure about it at first. After using it I love it. It’s my first banneton. Didn’t want to deal with a lining. It’s very sturdy and well made. Made a great crust on my loaf

I use this for making sourdough bread. I have the round one and ordered this oval. So much better than the wicker baskets. No cloth needed. I generously dust with rice flour and the dough does NOT stick. Cleaning is a breeze. Just allow them to air dry on the counter and lightly brush out any bits of flour. I learned about these from Elaine Boddy who has wonderful YouTube videos that helped a beginner such as me. This banneton is solid and will last a long long time.

This is perfect! I like to bake large sourdough bread and this banneton proofing basket accommodates large volumes of dough without running over sides. The pressed wood pulp is different. I will line it with parchment paper as I'm not willing to see if dough sticks to the wood pulp.

Timely arrival. Have been able to make fantastic bread with the help of Bulka basket. Dough is less moist and allows for better cold bulk fermentation.

Quality of the wood pulp material is superb. It is an excellent product. However one thing they could improve is that they could tell us what is the quantity of dough for this size. I have ordered a larger size and now I can’t return it.

This has to be the worst product I've ever bought on Amazon. For someone with stomach issues, which is why I make my own bread, this thing could have major health consequences. The wood fibres constantly shed, so picture that in your belly, colon and intestines every time you eat bread that you make in this banneton. Not only that, you can't wipe the banneton with anything wet or even damp, as the surface of the banneton literally dissolves away every time you wipe it, and ruins the pattern. Fancy packaging doesn't hide the significant health issue. A total waste of money.
