This filter works great, if you install the filters correctly and tighten properly it does not leak. Sure, there are some drops in the drip tray but 6 gallons of wine is being pumped through three filters, that happens. I put the drip hose in a wine bottle and capture every last drop. The tube that goes in the carboy to capture the wine has a wire in it so you can easily hold it in place while pumping. You will literally get every last drop of wine from the carboy.

Easy to use, no issues. Just watch the youtube videos and follow the instructions and you wont have any problems. I have already bought more filter pads and have only used it for one wine. The number 1 and 2 pads seems to clear the wine enough to keep out sediment and make it clear like professional quality wine. I pushed down on the pads while i tightened the hand knobs and that seems to create a good seal.

I absolutely love this filter system!!! It is so easy to use, so easy to clean. I make my wines in 6+ gallon batches, so this system is the perfect size. And the clarity - Diamond Brite with just the #2 pads! It really is like a night and day difference. Honestly, this is the best money I've spent on home brew equipment - hands down! First picture is before filtration - 33 day old wine. The second picture shows both before and after samples, and the third picture better captures the clarity achieved with just 1 pass through the #2 filter pads.

To many restrictions on how to use this device. One is you have to filter over a course of weeks. there are three seperate pads of different porosity. When you use this device you have to use one size only. You can not go from larger to smaller. So when you insert the filters they have to be the same size. Then you are suppose to wait for days and then use the next smaller size and wait four more days and use the polishing size. I personally like to bottle fter one filtertration bc you in essence are exposing your wine to oxidation by filtering so many times. Also the fining agent you use can affect the device. If you used Bentonite or sparkalloid you filter may clog. So the fining agent you use can affect this device. The only good quality of this device is you can bypass the filter and transfer from one container to another so it makes racking easy. I before getting this was using a pentek filter, which has worked well. With my pentek I ordered three seperetate canister, one which i house a 1 micron filter, the other a 5 micron filter and one that house a 30 micron filter. So when I filter it passes through all of them once and I get crystal clear wine with out having to wait weeks to do another filtration. Also since my filters for the pentek are reusable, it actually more cost effect, since I make a lot of wine. In my set up I use three penteks, my friends use only one pentek cannister, and if you were to follow the instruction with the mini on how they want you to filter, one pentek should suffice. I would look for videos on filtering wine with pentek filters and on this and decided which you feel is better for you. Personally I like the pentek methob, because it is more cost effecting only have to do it once and the speed is the same, and it can be rigged to be done under a vacum.Update: I gave this device a second chance ordered a second one. The pump in the newer one is weaker. I had a wine that was aging for a year and 5 months and naturally clear, I wanted to give it that extra sparkle, and use the newer pump, the newer pump clogs up fast and expect to lose about 3 liters of your brew, and it pumps slower than the original I had, which means more exposure to air.

The wine looks good when it is done. The directions say don't turn the pump off to move hoses around so when you are trying to move them there is some spray as hoses go from one container to the next. The major complaint is that using the number 2 filter I lost a full 750 ml bottle between it being filtered and if i did no filtering at all. It does not seem to matter if filtering a 3 gallon batch or a 5 gallon batch - the same 750ml loss. Unless you really need the wine to look finished, you can likely get away without this process.

I set the system up just as shown on the company's website. Had no problems with my first 5 gal batch. My batch had been clearing for a couple months before filtering. The results exceeded my expectations.

I had one of these from my dad already. I lost a piece so I bought a new one. The used one leaked quite a bit after 20 years of use. I was surprised the new one did not leak at all and worked perfect

Read instructions carefully. After that it's very easy to use. And quick. Very little waste in drip tray(About half a litre). Great thing to have for wine makers.
