Much to my surprise when the amazon.com packaging was opened, the Cameron's Products Small Bag BBQ Chunks, Mesquite was not small at all, but a good standard-sized bag, comparable to a standard bag of Weber Grill Chunks. The reason that this product was purchased was because Cameron's offered large mesquite wood chunks instead of small splintered ones. (In certain smoking/grilling applications it is more desirous to employ larger wood chunks than utilize smaller splintered ones within a foil pouch.)The Cameron's Products Mesquite Wood Chunks arrived in about 7 business days (was purchased with free shipping) and provides that good-old-fashioned mesquite smoke flavor to barbecued meats. When utilized with hickory wood chunks, both impart a good smoked meat flavor when you barbecue at low and slow temperatures. The wood chunks arrived dry and when added to the smoker/grill, ignited, burned and gave off a good quantity of smoke. (It should be noted that only 1 or 2 chunks of wood should be used at a time, as a good barbecue should not produce a lot of smoke, just enough to flavor the meat). If I recall the purchase price correctly, this item was priced slightly higher than a similar-sized bag that was not the large wood chunks. Other providers offered even larger bags at greater cost. If one can do the math ahead of time, one might be able to compare cost-to-weight ratios as well as shipping costs and determine what the best value for your dollar actually is.The Cameron's Products was chosen because of the lower shipping costs which offered free shipping when the order was over $25 (this item was purchased with a outdoor 5-way grill spatula). Other 3rd-party amazon providers may not offer free shipping, so count these costs if saving money is important to you.All in all, the Cameron's Products Small Bag BBQ Mesquite Chunks received 5 stars for the fact that the wood chunks offered by Cameron's Products were large wood chunks, not splintered small ones. The only slight disadvantage is the slightly higher initial cost, but this was expected because of the limited availability of large wood chunks.More often, manufacturers often find it easier to shred the wood utilized for smoking/grilling instead of cutting them to the appropriate grill size. Some machines are designed to shred the wood into these shards and this is less costly than the action of cutting them into chunks. Less labor means reduced cost. The large wood chunks required more labor, hence the higher initial cost. Factor this in, and then you'll understand why larger wood chunks cost more than the shredded wood.

Great quality pieces of wood for smoking meat. I use a hatchet on some of the larger pieces to get the size I want, as there is a little bit of variance in the sizes of the wood chunks. That is perfect for me, as I use the larger chunks when smoking, and the smaller pieces while grilling. I'll be ordering these again the next time I need wood. The Pecan smoke itself is great as well. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and it is quickly moving up my list of favorite woods to use. Many consider it interchangeable with Hickory wood chips, but I'd say it is just slightly more mild. Very good flavor overall, and would work well with chicken, beef, fish, and probably cheese. I prefer apple wood when smoking pork, but I'd guess it would work for that as well. Heck...there aren't any rules, so try it on everything!

A little pricey for what you get. There was a lot of pieces that had bark on them and you don't want bark when you smoking meat. Other than that works well

The only reason I'm giving 1 stars is because there are some cherry chunks, but not many. This wood doesn't appear kiln dried, it seems fully seasoned, but it looks like the quality you'd get from a wood pile, not a kiln. Most of the pieces are scraps and small pieces, hardly anything decent for long slow burns. I'm pretty sure some of the pieces aren't cherry (maybe ash tree). In summary, they basically took the scrap pieces off the very bottom of a wood chipper and let it season and they threw in some big chunk so they could market it as such. I would never buy from this company again.

I ordered the 5lb box of apple wood chunks. Upon opening the box I was pleased to see that all the chunks were virtually identical in size, about 3 inch cubes. I do my smoking on a Weber Performer with a Slow N Sear set up and that size is perfect. I have previously been using Weber wood chunks the size of which are inconsistent ranging from fist sized to slivers. I am pleased with the smoke and flavor of the Cameron Wood Chunks however I don’t detect any difference in taste from the Weber. So to summarize I really like the consistent size of the Cameron Apple Wood Chunks. The smoke flavor imparted to the protein is equal to that of the Weber Apple Wood Chunks. So the question becomes is the consistency of the wood chunk worth the extra cost ($16 for 5lb of Cameron vs $8 for 4lb of the Weber? Figuring in that I had zero waste product on the Cameron and the size is perfect for my application it is for me.

I initially gave this four-stars because the chunk size was a bit irregular. After running through the first bag and buying my second, though, I'm changing my tune. I like having a bit of variation is size so I can pick based on the duration of smoke I'm doing. So that being said, the quality of the wood is really good. The chunks are cut pretty cleanly, no sign of bad wood, and the smell... God, the smell is beautiful. I'm a Texan, so for me barbecue means brisket, and brisket means OAK. Nothing makes me happier than waking up in the morning to check on my brisket and smelling that oak smoke wafting through the back yard.

This is only a review on Oak Wood, and Not any other. This wood does not taste or smell anything like Oak. Very disappointed. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with all types of wood and their smell; but I am very familiar with Oak; and this not Oak. I know it's not Apple, Mesquite, Cherry as I have this from a reputable vendor, and this doesn't smell like any of them.

Was expecting more since I was used to Weber packages. Unless you are a diehard fan other brands are a better buy.

Not overly impressed, will not buy again. First of all came in a box and not in a bag as the picture illustrates. Not many chunks, more like bark shavings does not even come close to the weber products I typically get. My 2 cents!

Tiny box of wood and smelt a bit moldy. Not what I want to cook my family’s meal with.
