I needed a sheet of expanded steel to weld into the bottom of my trailer tongue so I could throw my straps and tarps and etc there. I had a hard time finding any locally, and the steel places wanted to sell me a 4x8 sheet for $120, which was way more than I needed. I found this and shipping was pretty reasonable so I bought it. Welded into my trailer tongue (which is a 48 long x36" triangle), I can stand in the center of it and I weigh 250 lbs. I did weld a piece of 1/8" steel strap under it for support in the middle, as i know expanded steel will sag with weight and age if not supported. Here is a picture: https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/295162_10100515587944796_37500791_46476894_1008401223_n.jpg It came sewn into a giant sheet of thick cardboard which protected it well, so it had no bends or bent edges when it arrived. I plan on using whats left to make a little charcoal bbq I can slide into my hitch when I go camping.

Good quality and size for the price. Only two complaints:Rusts very easily, more than expected. I wouldn't use this outdoors at all, even with good paint (which is difficult to get inside the spaces with a good covering anyway). The edges are SHARP. I mean if you try moving this thing and barely nick your skin, you will cut to the fat or the bone. I slashed my leg and my arm badly enough to need stitches while moving to where I could paint it... it was so sharp I didn't even know how bad the cuts were until I was bleeding everywhere. BE CAREFUL.

Short review because I see this is no longer available. 10 gauge expanded carbon steel 48" x 48" for under $40 bucks and I think shipping was free. Thought it would be junk. NOT - it was better than I expected. Full 10 gauge expanded metal. Mill scale enough that it should hold off rust for awhile. Needed a 30" grate for a burner project of mine and it is perfect. Tougher than the grate on my expensive grill.

This item was very clearly described as being 48" square. The piece I received was slightly less than 48" in width...and varied in width from 47 3/8" to 47 1/2". While this minor measurement difference likely will not affect most buyers, it rendered my use to 0% as I needed a true, full 48" by 48". Buyer beware.

This was purchased to fabricate a large outdoor grill. It is a fairly heavy gauge, and appears to be sturdy enough for my application. It was a bit trickier to weld than I had anticipated, and also was not much fun to cut to size. All in all, very good quality and shipped in a practical and sturdy container, so no damage. A good value compared to trying to purchase a pre-made grill.

The metal looks OK although I would have liked a little more thickness. My only issue is with the terminology used when quoting the size of the mesh opening. There is no explanation of what LWO, LWD means - leading one to think it's the actual opening size. It is not. The measures given include the surrounding metal of each mesh opening.
