1. How long will the effect last ?
It depends on how your space is laid out and used. Cedar works best and lasts longest in enclosed areas. It is cedar oil that makes cedar effective, which rises to the surface of the wood and is absorbed into the air. The scent fades more quickly if fresh air comes in frequently.
2. How to refresh cedar ?
All cedar will dry over time as oil evaporates into the air. To refresh the wood, sand your cedar softly or spray it with cedar oil.

The cedar smell is not very potent unless you stick them right by your nose. I originally bought them because someone said they would deter spiders/bugs. I still get spiders. However, I did find out that my catsssss absolutely loveeeee them!!!!! They are alllll over my house now, most under the fridge along with my chapsticks and twist ties. Who knows, maybe they are deterring some spiders and I just don't know it.

I use these in my drawers as well as in bags that contain clothing, blankets, stuffies, or anything that requires moth protection.These cedar balls are so much better than the moth balls we used 50 years ago

Got these for my sweater drawer and for the box where I store my classic Barbie clothes (a few items had previously been moth damaged). Only time will tell if they're effective.

Maybe it is the size but I was hoping for a stronger scent. Based on the other reviews, the scent is more than I expected but less than half of what I was hoping.They are round, well packed in the included bags, and easy to place.I can smell them from about 6 inches away so I hope it is worse for the moths. I have not tried to sand or heat them yet. If I do, then may come with an update. Otherwise, maybe I need to purchase a bunch more.

I find the scent just as strong as it should be without being overpowering. I also tried sanding a few with sandpaper, as some suggested, and I think it does enhance the scent. Best thing you can do is buy some cheap sachets (which I already had, and you can buy them here on Amazon) and make little cedar ball bundles you can put in closets and clothing drawers. I did that because I read that putting them directly next to clothing can lead to oil stains. Great product and fair price.

I'm very happy with these cedarwood balls. I was a little worried because of some reviews where the reviewer stated that they had little or no scent, or that the scent was artificial, but I find the scent to be very authentic. It isn't super strong, but authentic cedar balls do not smell super strong. I will be purchasing more.

I wanted wooden balls, I got wooden balls. They are placed around the house in cupboards. I'd love to give a detailed review on how these changed my life, but sometimes, one can be satisfied that one got what one expected to get.
