For Vermont Castings wood stoves (Models Defiant, Encore, Large Winter Warm Insert). Measures 13” long X 2.5” wide X 2” thick. Ceramic honeycomb coated with platinum and palladium, elements engineered to maximize catalytic reaction.
Strategically placed in the smoke path inside a wood stove, catalytic combustor causes smoke to burn as fuel, creating more heat from less wood. That means a wood stove can be burned slowly, transforming most energy stored in a log to the room as heat, instead of to the outside as air pollution. This combustor is not compatible with the Defiant / Encore Two-in-One Flexburn models.
Condar recommends replacing your stove’s catalytic probe thermometer each time the combustor is replaced. Choose 4-inch catalytic probe thermometer (ASIN B077JCXX2L).
This combustor’s stainless steel wrapping has the correct flange, like on your original catalytic combustor, to hold the ceramic securely in your Vermont Castings stove. Don't install gasket around the combustor, even if your previous catalyst was wrapped in gasket. Simply install this combustor in stove's catalyst receptacle.

Those of us who are "Woodies", who take wood generated heat sources as a serious contribution to our yearly budge and entertainment schedule, where ever it is, should rejoice! A bunch of years ago catalytic combustors were added to the traditional wood stove. Many stove manufacturers offered them. The catalytic combustors clearly added significantly increased heat output for the same amount of wood burned, with less soot generated in our chimneys. Sorry Bert (Mary Poppins), but we don't need you as frequently with these things. Many of these stove manufactures have changed hands in the past years and the resulting supply of the replacement catalytic combustors has been erratic and expensive. I own a Vermont Castings catalytic stove and the current owners are not friendly on the replacement combustors. The good news is that there is a third party company in NC that has filled the void in spades. They are Condar, excellent product, well made, supply many brands, and are at a much better price. Compare their Amazon price to their store web page price. They also supply wood stove accessories, like catalytic combustor thermometers and others which makes them the go to place for stove stuff. They still have platinum in their combustors. This is a pleasant find for the Woodie.

Works great! Indistinguishable from the original, as far as I can see. Wood burns longer and can't see any smoke coming out of the chimney - just the way it's supposed to be. Would definitely buy again - but shouldn't need to for many years.

I purchased this catalytic combustor in January. Last week I had my wood stove inspected after just 3-4 uses here in Georgia and the technician was shocked that I had just purchased this. He was sure that it was years old because the coating on the honeycomb is mostly gone. We had the last one for several years before it needed replacing so I am certainly hoping that this manufacturer will replace it for us. I will update on that when we are able to contact the seller and get a response.
