the right amount for my foundry. With just a little extra for a patch work if I ever need it. I used a mix with 1/4 less water I needed and packed it in tight with a 500 pound weight. than let it dry two days and added a last layer with a little extra water for that nice smooth surface look. After I sealed it with a Ceramic paint for extra heat protection. Raised the temp up 100* each hour till I reached 2100* than let cool for 10 hours before I used to smelt my metals. 5 stars for the right amount and good materials. Please note adding re bar is not needed, re bar can expand when heated and contact when cooling. This can lead to cracks or even failure of a foundry. Just mix well and get out any air pockets that you might get. If you can shake as you add the mix or even use a air vacuum to remove the air pockets. Air bubbles lead to weak spots and let heat travel thru it. Anyone needs any help or has any questions just ask. I been smelting for some years now and tried many refractory methods and materials. I smelt silver, copper, brass, bronze, aluminum, iron and even refine some 14k gold to 24k. I hope this helps and remember safety is important when dealing with metal in a liquid state.

This works great for my propane tank foundry. Have 100's of burn time on it. Little cracks on the inside but nothing major. I only melt aluminum so I don't know about brass and copper. The lid had rwo bars welded in to stregnthen holding power of the chamber safe. I will buy again for this purpose.

The product handled and set easilu in my furnace fire box and cover. To be on the safe side I ordered a little much and now have a lot extra left. Is there anything I can do extra to extend the shelf life?
