  • Chamois leather, also known as shammy, is a piece of lamb or sheep skin which is tanned using natural(marine) oils after having its grain removed.

  • Chamois is a very soft and thick type of leather that is known for its super absorbent ability. It can absorb water that’s up to 6 times its weight. Because of how soft and non-abrasive the material is, it is most commonly used for Auto Care.

  • Genuine chamois contains natural oils that make it soft and durable, so it’s normal to have a little fishy smell. The smell will disappear after several washes. It also serves to identify the real leather.

  • Before the first use of Chamois, wash the Chamois in warm soapy water, rinse the leather thoroughly afterward, and press the material to remove excess water. Don’t wring it, or it may tear the leather. Then lay it out to dry.

  • After each use, rinse the Chamois well and dry it away from direct sunlight. Store it in a dry and cool place. Make sure to never use bleach or detergents to wash your chamois.

As with most new chamois, there is an odor - though I wouldn’t describe it as “fishy” - which is how it’s described in the care instructions.I lost my quality chamois supply in my last move and as they were older, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to find any of a comparable quality to replace them. These are pretty comparable to the one’s I used to have - though maybe a mite bit thinner, it seems.I only ordered one, initially, to verify their quality. I’m pretty pleased with these, so will be ordering a few more.Only time will tell as to their durability.This is a “perk-free” review.

I haven’t seen these since the 1960s when I used to wash our Saab and DKW with my dad. I thought all these cows had died.Good quality. Soaks up well and wrings out enough water that it dries by itself pretty fast. A good buy.

nice rag, it is not as good as the ones made out of deer, but still it does the job, easy to use, it is not as stinky as the deer counter part and it doesn't leave the surface as shiny but it absorbs the liquids very well.

Genuine .And Nice size ,dones exactly what it’s supposed to ! a bit thin and not squared that’s fine with me ,bigger then most other’s & works well… * only con just I personally like to put it in some sort of container with to keep from drying all the way out . I’m going to fabricate one , out of something , to keep in . Not a big deal . ( I hope to recycle the container my other one/s once it is done ) they last a very long times! As a yacht refinisher or Matnace on my personal boat and suv . It holds lots of water and does not have any problems that I see . This one is bigger and thinner then my other . Very happy with it though and price can’t be beat for genuine , quality & value !

The cloth is soft and very big. I could cut it it into a few smaller pieces. I use it mainly to wash and dry the car and end up with a nice finish with no streaks on the paintwork or windows.
