I raised caterpillars into monarch butterflies in four of these, bought in pairs at different times. An improvement would be to have a floor insert for easy removal and cleaning, without disturbing the inhabitants,

Each year, my 5th grade class and I raise painted lady butterflies from caterpillar to adult. The caterpillars first live in small cups, before forming into chrysalises.I'll use this enclosure to hang the chrysalises from the top wall. Then, it will hold the adults temporarily after they emerge. We usually raise around six butterflies, and this enclosure is a great size for that many. It's very light and portable. The side zipper door opens and closes smoothly, and will allow for easy access to mount the chrysalises and feed the adults. Also, the adults should be able to fly out without difficulty. Our old enclosure 1) inconveniently opened and closed from the top, and 2) was too deep to comfortably reach the bottom to replace the butterfly's sugar water. After the adults leave, it should be simple to clean the clear plastic sides and store this enclosure until next year.Five stars ***** !

We got this plant enclosure to protect our spider plant from the neighborhood squirrel who loves to munch on the plant. It did the trick. The enclosure pops open with a gentle tug, and the potted plant fit in through the unzipped door. The door also allows for quick entry to water the plant. All the sides are mesh except for one large panel made from clear plastic, which makes it easy to see the plant. Handles on top make it quick to move, if necessary. So far, our plant is thriving and growing new leaves. This enclosure met our expectations.

Using for hummingbird moths. Growing my own hornworms as food source for my reptiles and needed a place for the moths to grow out in. Great place to start them, but is quite small so will be getting a larger mesh tent for them. But works pretty well at moment!

Every year in late spring and during the summer, I raise butterflies. In my backyard I have a set up for Black Swallowtails and in my front yard I'm set up for Monarch Butterflies.I plant several containers of parsley, dill & fennel on my deck and once I see eggs or tiny caterpillar's, I put them in an area I call the nursery. The nursery is the safe area. They are in an enclosure so the birds or any other threat can't get to them. They eat the plants until they are big enough, climb to the top of the enclosure, go to cocoon and eventually emerge as a butterfly. In the front yard, I have milkweed planted for them. I don't grow milkweed in the backyard because it's toxic to dogs so I err on the side of caution even though I don't think they would try to eat it.This butterfly habitat is small so I'll only be able to put a small plant in it with a few caterpillars on it but at least they'll be protected.I really like it and I think I'll be getting a few more in larger sizes. Can't wait for summer.

I have seen these habitats in classrooms and other places a lot since public awareness of the decline of monarch butterflies has increased. The thing I love the most about this is the clear panel for viewing whatever you want to keep in there. Others I've seen are mesh all the way around and it really obscures the view. I have the small size and it should house at least 10 caterpillars easily. This things also collapses flat when not in use for storage until the next season. I'm very excited to "grow" my own butterflies this year!

My wife is starting a moth pinning hobby and got this to raise her cocoons in. It seals well and is sturdy. We are hanging it around the house and trust that the bugs won't escape!

We have a couple of other butterfly habitats, and compared to those, this one has a much nicer reinforced zipper. I think it will last longer. However, this one did not come with a clear plastic sheet to line the bottom, which is really nice to have for easy clean up when raising butterflies. Right now, we are using these enclosures for garden plant starts in the house. This will protect my seedlings from our cat.
