After reading many reviews for many mills, I settled on this product. As someone who never used a mill before and didn't want to ruin the cacao (chocolate) seeds I had to grind, I was a bit concerned. I started with coffee beans and in less than five minutes produced a fine coffee powder. A few reviewers had explained that you have to start with a loose grind and tighten the nut a bit more everytime you pass your grains through the mill. This proved to be valuable guidance. Very few metal shavings appeared after the first run, but there were none the second time around and while grinding my chocolate. I like that it comes with the rubber pad to prevent any damage to my wood table. I attached a couple of photos, the first (close up in metal bowl) is of the coffee and the second (in glass bowl) is of the chocolate. The price was right and it came partially assembled so you feel like you only have to put it together, not build it from scratch. There was no oil or funny smells on the mill. It also came with a useful diagram and instructions that are perfect for first timers like myself. The hopper is huge and held all of my cacao seeds which yielded a quart of cocoa powder. The price was right. You may want to have a little basting brush handy to dust of any fine particals that will blow into the crevices of the device. My 1.5 quart Pyrex bowl fit perfectly underneath the mill. Do not hesitate to buy this if looking for a mill that will get the job done right without breaking the bank.
O.K.

The quality is horrible. The mold lines are so bad on critical surfaces that the Hopper can not fit at all, the support for attaching to the table should be flat, but instead it has a huge mold line in the center (V-Shaped) so when mounted it wobbles back and forth and just slides off the edge when operating. The grinding plates are not aligned/parallel to each other so that one side is metal on metal and the other side has huge gap so can not control the grind, get a mix of everything, whole grains and dust together. So unless you have access to a machine shop to remove access material in critical areas and you can make it "FLATT", don't buy it. Also, very difficult to operate, have to hold the thing in place with one hand very hard while cranking it or it will fly off the table...

Read-Read-We got this to grind corn, for tamales.Run white rice and 3-4 cups of it, until grey gets lighter.Fair warning! Grey color on food goes away once you start grinding, your 1st actual should be test run.Honestly the grey color on corn went away and device was great! It washed easily and I rinsed with super hot water so dry faster. Didn’t want it to rust up.Honestly many hand grinding devices require running rice through few times from research I did, especially common in hand cranking devices.Hopefully this helps, it’s certainly not meant to scare ya off, because it works great once you get it right. We used the grinder for 96 ears corn and it was easy once we up going.Good luck and enjoy: )

I bought this grain mill to grind up chicken feed. I was having issues with my chickens eating the 'good' food I mixed for them, but leaving the alfalfa and peas. Now that I've been grinding up their food, there's been no waste and they've been getting everything they need to be happy and healthy.I did find this a bit of a hassle to set up. The directions were clear, which was nice, but some of the knobs that went into holes to be screwed in didn't fit right. The hole would be a circle, but the knob to go into the whole was more triangular shape. It was disappointing to run into this problem when the mill was built heavy duty. When I was young I used a plastic grain mill and it didn't hold up very well, being made of plastic. Now that this mill is put together, I'm confident that the handle won't be breaking into two since it's made of thick metal. My only other complaint with the mill is that the 2 screws on either side that holds the guard on keep loosening as I'm grinding up the feed and I have to keep tightening it every 5 minutes or so. Besides that, this mill has been a chicken life-saver and I found it to be well worth the money we paid for it.

Just like the one grandma used to have. This one is a bit beefier. Does a great job of milling wheat for flour. Ran the wheat berries through three times gradually tightening the grinding plates every time. Very satisfied with medium grind on the flour. No electricity to boot, and change up arms to balance the workout. Bonus note, I tested mine for lead in the coating came up negative.

The quality/precision of this grinder doesn't let you grind up fine flour for bread, but it's fine for coarser uses. I don't grind much gain but I love gardening. I make a lot of gritty mix for my potted plants but particle size out of the bag is often too course to be directly used. This grinder is cheap and really rough, but works great for grinding up soft stones such as pumice and black lava into smaller particles suitable for making bonsai or gritty potting mix.

The hopper is big enough that it blocks the handle from rotating smoothly, leading to a point of consistent conflict between the two. I'd got this for grinding acorns into acorn flour, and while it did the job in terms of breaking the acorns down, it became a game of how much metal I was willing to get into my flour from grinding at the tighter settings VS how large of chunks I was willing to keep in the flour / meal. It's a mechanical hand tool, I can accept that, but the hopper issue made the required repeated grinding more of a pain than I'd like.Pros - Easy to assemble and disassemble, easy to clean, clamp mount has a wide range and holds securely. Grinds through a hopper's worth of material pretty quickly by hand.Cons - Hopper is too big and blocks the handle a bit, the grinding plates end up letting some bigger chunks through leading to multiple grinds of the same material, trying to grind fine flour tends to get some ground metal bits from the grinding plates touching.

This grinder is great! I cleaned and tried it out as soon as I got it! First tried a 1/4 cup of coffee beans. Done in seconds. Put in rest of bag- 300g or about 2 cups. There was still room for another 2 cups. Ground that in 5 minutes. Why so long? Because I had to empty desert bowl into coffee container 3 times.lol. It is very adjustable to what grind you want. It is a bit big but you need size for ease of grinding. Truly love it!

I've had the same problems as some of the other recent purchasers: too large a gap allowing grain to spill out and the handle rubbing the hopper during operation. In addition, the poor machining of this item leaves a sort of ridge along the foot of the clamp, making it virtually impossible to tightly secure to a surface. A retaining clip inside the thing broke during adjustment. Also, the coating on some of the screws guarantee a rain of metal shavings that you'll need to be careful don't get into whatever you're milling. The only thing this mill really has going for it is the "sturdiness" in that it would make an effective bludgeon.I wouldn't recommend this product and regret this purchase. Deeply.

This product is a complete mess1. The ENTIRE product I'd galvanised tin including the grinding heads meaning if you grind anything you will be eating the soft metal shavings. On top of that the item arrived with surface rust so the galvanised service doesn't work anyway.2. The hopper has a massive gap between it and the mill meaning any grain smaller than wheat like rice or Mustard will fall on out.3. Grain is pushed backwards out the mill and falls out near the handle as the grinding shaft is too small for its housing and sits metal on metal = even more metal shavings in your flour.4. The feed chamber is so badly cast there is a 5mm gap between the auger and the walls meaning most grain simply sits in the hopper and is not pushed worward to be ground.I thought this product might be cheap but as it is I'm not even sure if I would use it to grind animal feed
