Simply stated, this device does not work. The pointed blade does not penetrate the bagel but rather crushes it as you press down on the handle. The bagel is a mess and you have to push it back into shape with your hands.

I was disappointed that the blade was not as sharp as I thought it would be as when you push down to cut the bagel, it smashes it.

Evaluation Overall-4.5/5. IF your bagel can fit in the heavy-gauge, safety plastic sleeve, the blade, driven by personal strength does an excellent job cutting the bagel straight & true. Additionally, top-rack dishwashing works well on the stainless-steel blade & firm plastic handle. Only time will tell how long this simple & effective tool will last. For the price, worth the investment.

What I like: Easy to use. Makes clean cuts and does not smoosh bagels. Large bakery bagels fit easily.What I dislike: Not easy to clean blade because of safety shield. No solid bottom on bagel holder to catch crumbs.I would buy this again, but wish it came in colors other than white.
