When I am out backpacking or need to trim some trees at my cottage this saw comes in handy. It cuts like a charm and is easy to use. I use it to cut pieces of wood from the fallen trees for my firepit. I don't need to use my chain saw and this saw does the job. The price is right too and is easy to store.

What can be said for a wire saw. It uses FRICTION to cut any limbs or light brush you may need removed. It works quite well on green wood as long as you use it as intended. I have cut up to two inch limbs with it and no issues. You have to let the saw do the work or it will break and it does get quite hot when in operation . To use, make about a 1/4 inch undercut on the branch then go to the top and start your cut. As the limb pulls down on the undercut it relieves tension as well as friction on the saw making it last longer. Remember, if you have to pull hard or it binds it WILL break the wire. I would not recommend cutting over three inch wood with this thing. When you are done, pull the saw straight between the handles and hold it there till it cools, about a minute or so. This holding time helps prevent the wires natural tendancy to curl if let loose when hot. You can pull it back out and saw off a stub to get the wire hot again then straighten it again.

This product worked ok for a few higher branches I was cutting down. The major problem is that it binds and gets stuck in the branch. When I pulled with a bit more pressure, the saw/wire flew back at me and hit me in the chest. Oh. well I thought, I would just be more careful next time. Started to saw another branch. The blade got stuck again and this time it broke in half sending the saw into my chest again.I guess if you are sawing something at ground level, left to right or using it in a bow, this might be okay. But beware if you think you can use this to saw higher branches because it won't work for long and is down right dangerous.

While I wouldn't want to take down a large limb with this, it's the perfect little saw for backpackers. It's lightweight, sturdy, and nice for sawing small downed limbs for firewood when camping. I keep one in the car and even used it to shorten a hose that sprang a leak during a road trip.

I would recommend using the pocket saw for emergencies, backpacking, or survival situations. I have used it on the job to take down several types of trees with varying thicknesses. It really gets the job done. When you're using it make sure the branch or tree does not pinch the saw or you could end up damaging the wire. After four hours of continuous use it held up well. The size and the weight are great if you're backpacking - you'd never even know it was in your bag..
