I have had a mediocre pepper grinder for longer than I care to admit. It got to the point that you had to hold it at just the right spot to get it grind correctly. So, this was a welcome addition to my kitchen accoutrement. The grinder I received has ceramic elements instead of the, "carbon steel grinding mechanism" mentioned in the description. That is despite the images in the listing for the pepper mill that clearly show a ceramic grinder. I don't know if that was a mix-up, but it's completely fine with me as I prefer the ceramic version anyway.I love the olive wood body - it still smells amazing and looks great too. Filling the grinder was fairly easy, though the shaft was kind of loose and needed to be centered up in order to put the top on the mill. (Really not a big deal!) Other mills I've used have a frame that keeps the shaft from taking to the side.Filling the mill is pretty simple and, once you've tightened the capscrew, you're ready to roll. The compact size means that there isn't a ton of volume inside for a lot of peppercorns. This is the only potential critique and the size makes it pretty obvious that you're not going to have the capacity of one of the silly "Italian" restaurants versions that take a team to operate!Bottom line: I like everything about this little grinder and am happy to finally have a replacement for my old, busted mill! (Also, salt mills are for rookies - don't bother. There, I said it.)

Works as expected. Nice weight. Not too heavy but heavy enough to feel like good quality. I bough their clear salt grinder as well and the pair look good together. Exact same shape and model.

A very attractive pepper mill. I love the modern shape and the real olive wood base. I was disappointed that it arrived wrapped in tissue paper, packaged in a plastic shipping bag, and rattling around in a larger shipping container, as opposed to nice presentation box. Filling it was easy, and for it's size it holds a good amount of pepper corns. Grinding is smooth, but I am constantly having to make adjustments to get ground pepper of uniform coarseness. The adjusting knob on top is loose and doesn't stay where I set it. At this price point from Cole & Mason I expected a better presentation and product.

"I got the pepper grinder. I love pepper and have several grinders around the kitchen. This one falls in the middle of the pack although it was the most expensive. It looks nice, feels nice in the hand and has a strong grinder. Unfortunately it doesn't hold as many peppercorns as you would hope and the top adjustment knob will not stay put. It loosens every time you use it. This means it almost always grinds at it's coarsiest setting. So this grinder is a mixed bag and it's value proposition doesn't help. I guess it depends on what you hold as most dear in your pepper grinders."

This finely crafted salt grinder is beautiful. I am using it for coarse pink Himalayan salt. This grinder works perfectly for it.I love that it is not just a plain shaker, it is also a well-crafted little work of art.

This is a nice quality salt grinder that allows for adjustable coarseness. We are using it on our kitchen table with Himalayan pink salt and it works well at the fine grind setting. The olive wood adds a beautiful touch to our table setting.

Wow. Cole & Mason craft beautiful kitchen implements. This mill is gorgeous and perhaps the most solidly built mill I’ve owned in my 55 years. It’s made from solid wood and stainless steel and grinds beautifully! The listing didn’t make it clear what the difference was between the “pepper†version and the “salt†version. I assume the mill mechanism is identical. It appears the different is the embossed “p†on the top knob.
