One issue prevents this from being a 5-star test kit - of the 4 bottles they provide, 3 of the 4 had loose screw-lids. By loose I mean that it took a half a turn or more to tighten to a snug (not tight) condition. This may or may not skew the test results (I'm no expert on this). But to maintain sterility, I do know that it's important to keep lids tight to prevent air exchange with the unsterile environment we live in. The instructions recommend washing hands in soap and water prior to conducting this test. Why not snug the jar lids properly while at the sterile factory (I'm assuming...)?We didn't test positive for coliform, but I used the bottle that had a snug lid when I took it out. So yay for us, but it's unknown if the other 3 bottles will work properly. I guess I could use some alcohol to attain this condition, but why should it be my hassle simply because the manufacturer can't take extra time to snug the lids? OK, I've gone on about this long enough... The product does seem to work, so 4 stars it is!

I have an old whole house filter in my house. Unfortunately it hasn't been properly maintained for a long time, so I was worried that the water could make me sick. This test was easy to use and interpret. Just pour the packet into one of the cups, fill with water to the line, close and shake. Wait two days and you'll have your answer! I can now rest easy knowing that I'm not getting exposed to ecoli every time I turn on a tap.
