The function of these rods appears to be to make sure the top lowers and raises so that the glass back window folds properly. The rods do not appear to actually hold the top up, since nothing drops down when you remove them.

Common Signs of Failsure
Worn lift solenoids
If you use a convertible top a lot, the cylinders may start to wear out. If your convertible top is very slow to go up and down or gets stuck, a worn or leaking convertible top cylinder may be the problem.
Failed hydraulic pump
The hydraulic pump may fail. Failed hydraulic pump which make lift arm lost its role, cause arm cylinder have no power lift up.
Noises
When your Convertible Top Hydraulic Cylinders Lift Arms work, follow with some noise, it's the most common sign of Lift Arms failsure.

(Do not buy, unsafe for use) Ordered this exact part in the end of February. Just over 2 month so of corse it's to late to return this defective POS. Went to put my top down today and I heard a Crack and the top fell with all of its weight. Went to inspect and the fluid wasn't leaking so kept looking just to see this piece snap clean in half and now I'm stuck with a top down tell I can order better part. Ps won't be getting them from him that's so un safe and I will be looking into getting a refund from Amazon.

L'installation est beaucoup plus complexe que je croyais surtout tout seul. Installer sur ma mustang 2003 avec roll bar faut tout défaire l'arrière. Le plus compliqué c'est de remettre les bolts au cylindre. Très efficace pour montrer et descendre le toit. Je recommande.

They are a little bigger(larger oil tube)than the stock cylinders but fit and work as they should,Operate slower and smoother than the original ones but for the application speed is not a issue
