This 2.5lb engineering hammer works great. Well balanced in the hand and I really like the fiberglass handle. Comes with a lifetime, hassle-free, warranty so the company stands behind the product. Good value for the quality. Will probably buy other Crescent brand hammers in the future.

BACKGROUND:This came up as a Vine suggestion for me. Crescent is a tool manufacturer from my youth and has always had a good reputation. Unfortunately, it has changed hands a few times since then...INITIAL OBSERVATIONS:Although it was supposed to be a package with ONE hammer in it, it came with TWO. At $20 for a single hammer, it seemed a bit high, but for TWO hammers, it was a REALLY GOOD deal. You probably should not rely on this mistake happening if you order it though. The quality is acceptable, although nothing particularly special. Basically a rough casting with a few machined edges on it.COMPLAINTS / ISSUES:It's made in China and I don't think the quality is the same as the Crescent tools of my youth, but that's not really surprising these days. It's "good enough' for driving stakes and such. Is it "machinist quality"? Probably not, but I'm not a "machinist", just someone who happens to have a cheap lathe for doing crude things.IMPRESSIONS:The handle seems attached well. Although it says that the handle is "fiberglass", the exterior surface just look like plastic. Maybe there is a fiberglass core hidden below the plastic?CONCLUSION:Normally, I would say that this was an "average" (3.0 stars) or maybe even "slight above average" (3.2 stars), but since they made the mistake of sending me TWO hammers instead of the ONE that was supposed to be sent, I'll bump it up to a "above average" (3.5 stars) rating. It's a perfectly acceptable hammer comparable to the other discount hammers that I've seen and I have no complaints about it. If I encounter any issues, I'll revisit this review in the future.ORIGINAL AD DESCRIPTION:CRESCENT - HAMMER, 2.5LB ENGINEER, FIBERGLASS (CHFENG40)$19.97STAR RATING SCALE:1 -- Poor product; Waste of money at ANY price; Blatant lies in the original listing.2 -- Below average product; Something about it is a bit lacking; It could be conflicted specifications or errors in the original listing or that it was arrived with damage that was unlikely to have occurred during shipping and should have been caught in either the manufacturer's or seller's quality control.3 -- Average product; Meets expectations, perfectly serviceable, but does not do anything that sets it apart from similar products; Does not have some features that makes me say, "Wow, that's a neat feature".4 -- Above average product; Something about it sets it a bit above similar products on the market.5 -- Excellent product (or perhaps customer service); There is NO room for improvement whatsoever; NOTHING is perfect, so this rating *should* be EXTREMELY difficult to achieve.ǝuᴉʌ/ʇǝu.sɔ-ɥs.ʍʍʍ:ORDERED:2024-07-31:RECEIVED:2024-08-06:REVIEWED:2024-08-06:AID:B0C2W2XPV4

The build quality on this 2.5LB Crescent hammer seems heavy-duty. The industrial-grade steel and fiberglass handle make a good combo. It feels substantial and has good balance. I feel like I got more hammer for the price. It should last for a long time.

I have had similarly sized sledge hammers, but with a wooden handle. Wood is great for a lot of things, but when it comes to a hammer of this style, it is too easy to mangle a wood handle if you miss the mark and hit the handle. This hammer, with a fiberglass handle, is almost indestructible. It is well balanced, and the fiberglass handle does a good job of absorbing impact. The head is hardened and so far has not deformed from impact. Well-made, recommended.

I’m a realtor and in the summer, the ground here gets so hard that you can’t step a sign into the ground. I carry a concrete form stake and a hammer in my truck to make holes so I can get my signs into the ground. I replaced a similar sized hammer that I previously used with this one. They are otherwise similar in weight and construction but this hammer has a shorter handle on it. I find the shorter handle is better for me. I’m able to better swing and control this hammer. The grip is great and the hammer performs very well. The tool seems to be well constructed.

To get a comfortable grip I have to position my hand a full two inches from the base of the handle. It's not a bad hammer, but it isn't as good as Estwing's version for the same price.
