It is comprised of a main module and a separate user interface. This interface is a simple rotary knob with a push-button and ten tri-color LEDs to control and monitor all trailer brake activity. It also features a triple-axis accelerometer for highly responsive, smooth stops on any grade. The separated module and interface of the Spectrum brake controller allow it to integrate with the vehicle unlike any other. The main module can be mounted behind the dash and completely out of sight. The separate rotary knob provides a sleek, subtle interface that mounts on the dash of the vehicle wherever desired. It features ten LEDs with three colors each (red, green and blue) to indicate trailer brake activity and power adjustment. The rotary knob and integrated push-button allow for simple and effective operation of the control settings and manual adjustment. The Spectrum trailer brake controller offers superior safety and helps protect the life of your vehicle and trailer with its advanced triple-axis accelerometer. This integrated circuit detects the motion of the vehicle and trailer when making stops and applies the precise amount of brake power for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. The three axes of the circuit also enable the brake control to compensate when going up or down a hill. Like most CURT brake controllers, the Spectrum installs using one of our vehicle-specific quick plug harnesses. It also has automated leveling and calibration capabilities to simplify and speed up the installation process. I was looking for a brake controller that didnt get in the way of my knees, old style brake controllers always annoyed me and just plain look bad, so when i found out about this brake controller from curt that only shows a remote knob, i figured i would try it, it is very expensive compared to other brake controllers, but its kinda a specialty for people like me who dont like normal brake controllers, so i was willing to spend the money, first off ill say everyone that had problems with the controller flashing when not in use almost made me not buy it, but i figured i would wire a on/off switch if i had that problem but it never happened to mine, I havent actually hauled a trailer yet, but i did connect to one just to see what happens, nothing different than when not connected, except when i unplugged the trailer i did get the flashing blue lights which mean the trailer was disconnected, those lasted about 10 seconds and then it returned to the normal mode, for my fellow 07-13 silverado owners thinking about buying this, just make sure you order the wiring harness adapter, its like $8 you wire it up to your trucks already pre existing brake controller wires under the dash and then it plugs directly into the module that comes with the brake controller, and then connect the 2 wires to the fuse box under the dash, they are already there from the factory, google should make all that easy, but overrall its super simple to install and super easy to use, i should be hauling a trailer soon, if this is the last you hear from me about this brake controller it means it worked great, if it does not work great i will be back to change my review

I installed the CURT spectrum trailer brake controller in my 2023 GMC 2500 Siera. The controller was easy to install, looks and works great. The Installation problem was simply a blown fuse in the vehicle fuse box.

This was installed in a 2023 Silverado RST that did not come with a factory controller. Installation is straight forward and you are given two options to install the indicator/controll knob. I chose the drill through the dash trim method.Things they don't tell you in the manual:1. You have to remove the trim ring from the knob to install!2. There is a correct orientation when you put the pins into a connector.The knob itself is well designed and matches (at least in the GM) the esthetics of the other dash controls.Figure on 1 - 2 hours to install for a handy-capable owner.

Most videos I watch on installing this to a Chevrolet Trail Boss shoed you having to add the tiny wires to the adapter. I guess enough people complained and the company provided a new plug. Had to purchase the wire harness for the Trail Boss separately. Install only took about 40 minutes. Did not have to remove any of the panels. Just removed the USB port by prying it out. You can put you finger through the hole and pull the tabs that will allow you to push the plastic plug in. You then just have to maneuver it around to get it out and back in.

I’m installing this controller in my 2012 FJ Cruiser. I purchased it because of the limited dash space that is getting to be more common in today’s vehicles. I also liked the fact that, upon installation, it looked like an OEM product. I’ve purchased Curt products in the past and found them to be solid and reliable. My only issue with this unit is something that should have been the simplest item of the installation. The well screw that holds the plastic housing securely to the dash sits directly under the wiring coming out of the rear of the control knob. This not only causes the knob not to click securely into the housing but also creates a potential electrical short across the head of the screw. Easy fix. I simply removed the screw and washer put a drop of epoxy cement under the housing and let it set. Clicked the knob into place and problem solved. Just something to look out for. Hope this helps......Unfortunate update... I wasn’t able to complete the brake controller installation as quickly as I would have liked. Life keeps getting in the way. I completed the installation today and to my amazement, the controller was DOA. Nothing, zip, nada... Even went through the process of completely removing the unit on the possibility of it being user error. Reinstalled it and nothing. Took everything out again and hardwired it on the off chance of it being defective wiring. Nothing... Ran a continuity test on all of the circuits. And again, nothing. Finally, I really wanted this thing to work. But now all I have is a hole in my dash. I’m changing my rating from a four to a one. For everyone else’s sake I hope I just got a bad unit.

This unit has a very clean install appearance. I did not want the bulky box on my console. The instructions weren't as clear on how to ensure the plug wires needed to be inserted a particular direction. I initially installed in a way that looked right, but got no power until realizing I needed to turn the wires over for the shape of the fittings to seat the wires in the plug all the way. After that...worked like a champ. Ready to get towing now!

Seems like the newer version of this brake controller no longer has a diy connector and has been replaced with a standard connector making install easier. The rubber washer and screw are no longer included and now it has no screw hole in the base plate and just includes self tapping screws. I ended up just drilling two holes and using 6-32 machine screws with a nut on the back. Overall very good brake controller, didn't seem to stay on when trailer isn't connected either which i believe the old version did.

Got this for my 2021 Jeep, as well as the optional adapter that connects the unit directly to the pre-installed factory trailer package. Wanted to use the permanent install which requires drilling, but couldn't access the trim, so went with the included adhesive option with the included good quality tape.Easy to connect, set up and adjust. For a first time trailer owner I'm very pleased with this product.

Unit works great, but for the rotary controller, at least on my unit pinout #4 is Brown in the manual. there is no brown wire, I used the orange and it was wired correctly. all the other wire colours are correct.

I've had problems from the start from being wired backwards to faulty connections to detached wiring. These are very poor quality and if you check the reviews from others you will see similar issues including an electrician who commented on how poorly it's wired. This is very cheap grade low quality junk. AVOID.
