So I had previously worked at a boot shop, and have had several customers come in and ask if we carried these socks (we did not), so when the next customer to ask for them came in I asked why they liked them so much. One customer said that he goes to Alaska every year to hunt and he said that this is the only brand of sock that he doesn’t freeze in. So this year my husband and I decided to plan a snowboarding trip to Utah and then to Colorado, so I figured I would give them a try because I’m naturally a cold natured person. These socks are INCREDIBLE!! 100% recommend them to anyone! They are warm, comfortable, well padded, and don’t have that icky nylon feeling. These are legit

These are very nice socks. I would give them a 4.7. I have a few pairs of over-the-calf socks from Smartwool (purchased a handful of years ago) and I will compare. The quality of these DarnTough socks is very good and they seem a little thicker than the Smartwool ones. I've washed and hang dried these socks with no problems. No issues with the inside feel.My only gripe is the height. I'm 5'2" and the Smartwool socks stop in the perfect spot just below my knee cap. These socks end mid knee cap for me. It's an awkward spot and if the top end settles in a spot at the base of my knee cap it causes odd nerve pain. I now pull them up as high as possible or fold down an inch. It's not great therefore under tight pants, but fine with looser ones.These socks fit just fine in my usual winter boots. (I also bought a pair of DarnTough FULL padding OTC socks and they are so thick I have to wear them with boots that are wider or a half size larger than my usual.)I purchased a size small. I would say I have normally sized, shapely calves, and a size 7-7.5 foot. The socks are close fitting and not too tight. I tried a size medium in another OTC pair of DarnTough women's socks, and they fit nicely in the shaft, but were too loose in the toe.

These socks are warm and comfortable. There is a bit of compression, but it wasn't too much for me.

These socks are now my favorite with the extra padding for a ski boot and the women's large size fits me better than the men's medium I purchased in the past that were lighter weight.

Goes up to my knee on 5'3" frame and extra padding is noticeable. Thin enough to wear under professional clothes during bike commute. Doesn't shrink.

Definitely a well made pair of socks.Thick padding on the shins & bottom of feet. Good height, they stop right below my knee and stay up.They feel a little stiff in the toe and are not soft. Pet fur really stands out on the black. I prefer the arch support, thicker socks, & softness of Bombas over these. But these socks are not thin. I hope they will soften with time, but I wouldn't buy them again. I haven't used them for ski/snowboarding, just for shoveling & some outdoor cold weather hiking. My feet haven't yet felt hot or sweaty in these yet.The Amazon listing is a bit confusing for what these socks are made of, but according to Darn Tough's website these are wool free / vegan friendly.
