About magnetic arc extinguishing
- AC circuit breakers cannot be used for DC, whereas DC circuit breakers can be used for AC.
- AC has a zero point, while DC does not, so DC arcs are more difficult to extinguish than AC arcs
- DC miniature circuit breakers are equipped with a magnetic field system under the breaking contact that pulls the arc into the interrupter chamber to assist in extinguishing the arc.

Bought this dc circuit breaker for my dc charger to power up the solar power station. On days with little or no sun the dc charger comes in handy but it needed a circuit breaker. I have used the dc charger several times with no problems but having the circuit breaker in place gives peace of mind.

I had in-line breakers from amazon installed in my off-grid solar setup. THey were the type used in audio installations. They failed twice over 3 years, due to overheating and melting. These cheap chinese "thermal breakers" had to be sized 2x their rating, because they usually cut-off way below the set current. They would overheat, deform, melt the plastic, and over time, they would trip the circuit at lower and lower currents. Then eventually they fail in various unpredictable ways. In those days (2019) they were the only DC breakers available on Amazon.Now we have these different style of DC breakers, similar to what you find in a household breaker panel. I installed 4 of them to replace the others, and now I have absolutely no issues.The old in-line breakers are constructed with a metal plate that deforms as it heats up, and eventually breaks the circuit. But they cut off well below the rated current, and as they heat up, they deform, and then no longer perform normally.These breakers operate differently. They do have a thermal plate, but it's physically separate from the spring-loaded breaker mechanism. I found that these breakers do not heat up, will hold rated current, and will cut off only slightly above the rated current. In other words, THEY WORK!. I expect them to be reliable over time.

I installed this breaker on a branch circuit on my off grid DC solar system to replace a car audio circuit breaker I had been using for a while, which gave extraordinarily subpar performance. I've had this breaker up for a couple of days now. I've loaded it fairly heavily and it seems to work well, with considerably better thermal properties than the previous breaker. All in all I'm happy with it, especially for the $8 I paid for it.
