This is a nice, compact, door closer that is suitable for residential use. I think it looks more appropriate than some very large closer that you'd see in commercial use. It's well made and works smoothly.I had some trouble installing this but not because of the product. The instructions are pretty straightforward once you realize that the hydraulic unit mounts on the door if it's pushing the door closed and on the door frame if it's pulling the door closed. There is also an option for parallel mounting, which also pulls the door closed. I will say that they're not great instructions though, they don't walk you through the installation, they just explain the concept and provide a template. The videos in the listing are something you definitely want to watch.My problem was ceiling height. I was installing this in my garage, on a door that leads to a staircase going to my second floor home office. In an effort to maximize garage floor space during construction some compromises were made and this door sits much closer to the ceiling than is typical. You can see in the pictures that the top trim for the doorframe was cut down in order to fit between the door and the ceiling. To top things off, fire code required two layers of 5/8" sheetrock on the ceiling as a fire barrier to the office above the garage.I couldn't use either of the "pull the door closed" options because the ceiling on the landing behind the door is basically the height of the door. The closer would have been right at head level and I would have been smacking into it constantly. So I had only the "push" option available.When I mounted the closer, following the template, I found I couldn't mount the arms together because they pressed into the sheetrock. You can see by the holes below the pusher that I tried lowering the pusher but that doesn't work because it makes the angles wrong. So I did the only thing I could, I cut out one layer of sheetrock. This gave me enough clearance for the swingarm to work.None of those issues are the fault of the product or instructions though, it's because I have an odd door.Normally you'd have at least a couple inches more room between the door and ceiling. After adjusting the closing speed the unit works perfectly and I'm very happy with it.

Through my breezeway and into my shop there are a series of doors to walk through and its a pain, especially when you are carrying something, to pull every door shut behind you. These are perfect for the big steel exterior doors and ensures they close behind me so the animals don't go running out and I don't lose a bunch of heat. Fully adjustable and I'm able to lock them open so I can wheel in and out big things or just let the breeze through in the summer once its warmer. Great solution to keep doors shut, save energy, and keep the pets contained.
