2025/01 — I am so excited about this costume set from Horolam I just had to drop everything and write my review. But first — before anything else — I have a critical product update to share because it launches Horolam into that class of costumers I rate as PREMIUM: The costume now comes with ((A CALABASH PIPE)). Many people confuse the iconic pipe smoked by Sherlock Holmes with a Meerschaum Pipe but they would be wrong. He smoked a Calabash (famous for its deep curve).I loved this costume set the minute I laid eyes on ((THAT HAT)) so let’s begin with the Deerstalker. The hat comes in a gorgeous brown plaid with a dark brown ribbon on the top. It is made from not-thin polyester and is lined in black satin. The hat fit me perfectly. I am female with a head that is neither too large nor too small — a good average head to gauge the hat with. I was particularly pleased that the hat didn’t have too high of a rise (I hate that about some baseball hats, very ugly). You’ll be delighted to learn that there is a vibrant market in Deerstalker hats and that market takes their Deerstalkers very seriously indeed: Authentic ((WOOL)) Deerstalkers can be had for around $100 -or- you can pick up a polyester/wool blend for under $50. I adore this hat and viewing myself in the mirror wearing this one from Horosham surprised me: It looks great! I want one! They are extremely practical and the double bill just ROCKS!Next the pièce de résistance Calabash pipe — a lovely replica with a faux wood grain. It could be a bit bigger but not enough so that I would deduct points. For a costume it’s more than acceptable for those of us who aren’t Calabash pipe smokers and for those of you who are, you can use your own.The magnifying glass is a functioning 70mm magnifying glass. Again, it could be a bit bigger but again I’m not going to deduct any points. It would be easy for Horolam to package a fake magnifying glass but they went with a real one to their credit.Horolam includes a set of plain glass wire-rimmed spectacles in the round style so popular when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first penned The One — The Only — “Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.” They look authentic. I don’t think Sherlock Holmes ever wore glasses when he was at home with Dr. Watson — and I’m afraid Jeremy Brett has spoiled me for all time as Sherlock Holmes in the legendary Granada TV production where he absolutely did _not_ himself, as Sherlock, wear glasses (only as Sherlock-in-costume) so I would much rather Horolam invest in a larger Calabash pipe.And finally just for fun, a set of 6 adhesive-ready fake mustachios! This is particularly welcome to those of us females wanting to lend verisimilitude to our role as the legendary sleuth.For the EXCELLENT price this is a remarkably complete costume suitable for a 10 year-ish old up to an adult. A solid 5 Stars and I’ll check in periodically with Horolam to see if the sizing on the pipe and magnifying glass has ((increased)). But for now, come Watson! The game is afoot!

This is a pretty quality detective costume for what you're paying. The total kit includes a few different mustaches, a magnifying glass, a pair of glasses, a pipe, and a deerstalker hat. All are packaged in a plastic package and the contents were stored inside the hat for safe keeping.The most surprisingly quality item to me is actually the magnifying glass. I expected a cheap toy, but this is solid metal with an actual lens in it! It's around 5x magnification, which isn't too extreme, but much more than I expected! The glasses are a little cheaper, the metal frame of mine was slightly bent and the lenses in them are plastic. I bent the glasses mostly back into shape and after wearing them for a bit, they feel comfortable enough. The pipe is surprisingly functional too (it has a proper airway through the entire piece and a small metal basket you could ignite contents within. The stem is also removable (I won't suggest using it because the company hasn't, but you certainly could).Lastly, the hat! The Deerstalker hat has this nice felt-like inside that's smooth to the touch and insulates heat fairly pretty well. It has two "bills" to cover sun from both your head and the back of your neck. Best of all, it makes you look like a detective! Mine was slightly misshapen from shipping, but after wearing it for a bit, that all iron out. If you're looking for a detective outfit on a budget, this'll do the trick!

My daughter was Sherlock Holmes in a stage performance for a local theater group. The hat is really great quality. It was a great investment.

This is a fantastic set! I am dressing up as a detective for my daughter's birthday party, and this is the perfect set for my outfit! All of the items included in the set are an excellent quality. The hat is soft, both on the inside and out. There are no flaws in the stitching. The material is nice and thick and feels very sturdy. I have a smaller head, and it fits a little big on me. The magnifying glass is pretty heavy duty. The handle is made of plastic. The glass is nice and thick and magifys well. The glasses are very thin and a little flimsy. They fit pretty snugly on me (again, I have a smaller head). They do the job, however, and complete the look! Lastly, I love the different choice of mustaches. The sticky part peels somewhat easily, and sticks really well. I had one on for several hours and it stayed stuck the whole time, with no issues. The mustache feels nice and soft.Overall I would highly recommend this set, especially for the $17 price tag!

Feels much more expensive than it is; the quality of the fabric of the hat is great, the thickness, the stitching and the finishing are top-notch. The pipe, glasses and magnifying glass are great quality as well, and look and feel more like wardrobe/props for theater than a costume for halloween. The only items that didn’t wildly exceed my expectations were the fake mustaches, which do look like your typical halloween fare, and are very basic. This kit is a great buy, and it is highly recommended!

I am so impressed with this detective costume. It is mainly accessories but really they are done so well that they can pair easily with current clothing in your closet. The hat is made well and fits great. It has such a Sherlock look to it. The glasses look identical to real ones and the pipe and magnifying glass are heavy and feel like much higher value than the kit is priced at. I highly recommend this if you need a detective costume!

Dem Hut merkt man auf den ersten Blick nicht an, dass es sich um einen Kostümhut handelt. Die Lupe ist funktionstüchtig. In die Brille würde ich keine Gläser mit Sehschärfe setzen lassen, aber sie ist für den Zweck vollkommen in Ordnung. Für die Bärte hatte ich noch keine Verwendung und kann darum dazu nichts sagen.

I have to say I was very impressed by the quality of this Sherlock Holmes costume. The deerstalker hat, magnifying glass, pipe and glasses were all really high quality, and well made.The false moustaches are lot of fun.This set is great as part of detective or Sherlock Holmes Cosplay, Fancy Dress party, etc.It's worth every penny!

My kid loves to dress up and this set is adorable. The hat is cute, the mustaches had a huge variety and were stickey all the way across not just on a tab, the magnifying glass actually works. We dont do smoking things with kids so we skipped the pipe but its made well for a costume. would order again.

So... the Horolam Decective Costume set is quite pricey but the quality of the items is better than I was expecting. The hat is quite small though (child/small adult) but is lined, the pipe is good quality plastic, as is the magnifying glass. I'm not sure the glasses are needed but again, they can be recycled quite easily for a certain wizard outfit.Probably more expensive than I'd want to spend but it's certainly of high enough quality that it would last a load of wears. All in all, not bad and my son is excited to wear it for World Book Day.
