I've never used a power hand planer before, so I read the instructions before use. They are simple enough to follow for an experienced tool user, but there was an error that caused me to pause. The written instructions for changing carbide blades (W) were fine (see image w/ highlighted text), but the matching diagram in Fig. 8C transposed the labels for the blade (W) and blade carrier (X) (see image with annotations and highlights). The blade is supposed to be labeled W, not X. I suspect this is a no-brainer for an experienced planer user, but it was new to me so it mattered.Otherwise, the planer worked perfectly for what I needed. It was easy to set up and use, and after some practice tries, I was able to finesses the cuts to remove a warp-hump in the middle of a large walnut board--lots faster than using 36 grit belt sander. :-)Note that the cord is a bit of a worry because it could get cut by the planner. I didn't want to invest in a whole new battery ecosystem for one cordless tool, so it'll do, but more than once I had to pause to clear the cord from the work area. Just sayin'.

Worked great for our small live edge slab project. Took minimal sanding to remove any planing imperfections from the wavy wood.

Wanted a hand planner for so long but couldn't make the investment. Purchased a less expensive WEN Hand Planner to save money, however, the first day using, 1 of the 3 blade broke and gouged my cedar slab. Needless to say I returned the unit to Amazon (received my credit), and order the Dewalt. I have always been a user of Dewalt tools and never had any problems. Why I spend my time and effort to save $60 will never be understood. This planner works like a charm. Took good solid cuts and never slowed the unit down. Depth cut know is indented and hold position as required. All tools provide for setup new blades and also you can use the carbide inserts for easy setup, change and sharping. Great tools

Dual planer blades are a plus over slightly lower priced Bosch planer than has only single blade. This DeWault model is noisier than similar older models than we own. Air intake port is also smaller. Keep clear of sawdust to keep unit from overheating.

Very durable and cuts well. When cutting large amounts of lumber it was helpful to have a second battery to keep the flow going. In bethel battery charge lasted for at least 30-40 minutes of heavy cutting

Great tool for easy to use and the price. Was able to finish attic project on time. Might be best to get this one, not the 20v as you will use a lot of battery to do what this one does.
