This singing bowl has a great sound when you get the hang of using the mallet. Just run it around the rim at the right speed (a little fast) and it gets going. It sits well on the cushion. I've seen the smaller ones but this size is worth the little extra money. It can be used for meditation but it's also just fun to pass around to see who can get it to sing the longest. heehee

The bowl is large and beautiful. It is clearly machine made and not perfect. That said, it has a lovely sound when struck or stroked. My guitar/ukulele tuner tells me it is right in the key of C, which is what I was hoping for. The sound does not reverberate and last for as long as I would like, but overall I am very happy with the purchase.

Ok.... this is a retract of a negative review. I figured it out.1. Smaller bowls are harder to play because the walls are shorter...FYI. I placed bowl down on some furniture, flat so I wasn't even touching it. You have to go a little bit faster in even rotation than bigger ones. Once there's a strong singing... you can slow it down slightly.Hope this helps.

The other bowls I've tried were difficult to play and the resonance was just so so. This one has a very good tone and resonates for quite a while afterward. I'm very pleased and recommend this for those who are looking for a good bowl of a reasonable size and price.

This is was bought as a gift so I can't speak for the sound it makes. The singing bowl itself however has scratches on the inside and a section of the "gold" come away completely. I'm pretty disappointed, this is now the quality I feel comfortable gifting to a good friend. If I had seen this in store - I would not of bought it based purely on the scratches.
