I wanted this on a recent wind damage claim to my 3 tab shingle roof to have an evidentiary basis to debate with the insurance adjuster over an inadequate settlement and we arrived a more fair decision comparing my shingle gauge to his. I was lucky enough to have a roofer friend who showed me the proper technique of gauging the roof....some people use a 'slamming' motion to slide the gauge but a more gentle slide is the desired method and will not caused damage to the gauge by widening the 'gauge gap' by using it too aggressively.
