It stands 12 inches tall, burns 23 hours on 17 ounces of fuel, has an output of 9 candlepower, and uses a 5/8 inch wick. With the plate and cup having an outside diameter of 4 1/2 inches, and an output of approximately 1100 BTU, you can cook dinner anytime using this. Not only is it great for emergencies, it is also great for a casual night on the patio. Its snap-on bottom and holding pegs allow you anchor it to ground to prevent it from tipping over.

This lantern given the correct lamp oil or kerosene will provide the rated 9 candle power steadily and up to 22 candlepower with no smoke for cooking. I boiled 12 ounces of water in 12 minutes and 51 seconds. Not JetBoil fast, but it heats the water with no noise. I did an extensive test where it stayed lit in 25 mph Colorado winds, lit my basement sufficiently for emergency power, and boils water in a reasonable time. Solid piece of gear, will buy another one.

Hello, I have several Dietz lanterns. Comet 3/8 wick, original 76 1/2 wick, no. 1 little wizard 5/8 wick, d-lite 90 and jupiter 2500 in 7/8 and soon to have also a #8 air pilot 7/8 wick but rising cone burner unlike the other 7/8 wick dietz lanterns. I'd often wondered what lantern took a 3/4. Then I compared the burners between the no.1 little wizard and this 2000 cooker and behold the wick does not have a red stripe but plain white cotton. It is slightly less than 3/4 inch. My experience with cheap Chinese lanterns is that they many times take metric sizes like 8mm, 10mm, 11.2mm, 15mm, 20mm and if you try to use the fractional inch it can be too large and not fit into the burner and advance properly. So, the 20mm is actually bigger than 3/4 inch and the 15mm is used for "5/8" wick usually but not always. My other wicks can be slightly less than the fractional size but this one is enough smaller to cause concern if I put an actual 3/4 inch wick will it work? The larger wick size is welcome as I cooked rice, scrambled eggs with cheese, boiled water for coffee. Yes, I had to bend the wire and we even welded it with stainless rod to make it better after I broke it trying to bend it. Yes, the wire handles are junk because they only used 1 rivet so be careful not to loose the handles on the tiny cookware. However, the chimney is quite large compared to other Dietz and this will allow me to "hotrod" the lantern and squeeze all the BTU's into an aluminum heat sink for cooking. However, I am concerned about this wick. If I receive a 3/4 and it works bravo! There is an American mfg. of wicks on ebay that are all white. I ordered the striped and the pure white and hope it works well. When I'm done with this it'll cook better and I will put a TEG on top for charging. So, mileage will vary. It will do it's intended purpose but they need to update the specs. It has room for serious hotrodding and this is why I like it so much. Best regards, MIke

This is a nice oil lantern with good features, now I see why people give Dietz good reviews. I only gave 4 stars because I have not used it in the field yet. I did not have the problem other users mentioned with the potholder frame not fitting into the slots for it at the top of the lantern. It did take a lot of time and energy, was a bit tricky getting the prongs slid into place the first time. Once it was in, the hold is nice and tight and was not crooked. Subsequent removals and insertions were easier, so I think part of the problem is just getting the maneuvers right. Lantern has lever to raise the glass for lighting and a cap to cover the chimney so you can actually carry the lantern by its nice long handle- its a classic! Since another reviewer stated they boiled an egg in the little pot, I tried that. Took a long time for water to boil (this is candlepower) but it did eventually and I got a nice hard boiled egg of this, so yes, you could eventually boil water in it, but it would be in small amounts. However, it seems it would be ideal as a warmer, a bitty double boiler, a way to keep your cup of coffee/tea or dinner warm. The two pots are single serving size (and NOT supersized single serving). I always thought it was a waste to not use the heat from lanterns somehow - and someone else solved that nicely. I can't wait to use this car camping this summer (too big for backpacking). In the meantime, it sits on a bookcase, ready at hand for emergency lantern. I'm happy with this so far.

This lantern is great, its pretty fule efficient and dosent create a great amount of fumes, that may be in part to the lamp oil im using, but its still worth mentioning. I did test out the cook top by cooking a can of beans in the bowl provided, and i was able to have a can of hot beans on a cold day. This also provides a lot of light if turned to the right spot. The only con i have is that the washer on the cap to the fuel tank doesn't make a complete seal and does leak if i tip it too far. I did fill it up a decent amount, and it dosent leak a terrible amount when i do tilt it, but again still worth mentioning. Over all pretty good value for a product to last you a lifetime

Looking for a Two-Fer? Yes, we were. We are huge fans of Dietz lanterns: classic, well made and reliable. One of ours is over 40 years old and still going strong. Always curious, not to mention a coffee lover, hoping this lantern/warmer might be useful. Well, there is good and not so great news. The Good? It's a Dietz. Great lantern which works well. The Not So Good? The warmer attachment, specifically the frame. Whoopsy does not cover how rickety the frame is, regardless of attempts to firmly attach the pot stand. The included pots and lid are adorable, very small and aluminum. Once water is added to the larger pot, disaster seems imminent. Still trying to find a better way to attach the frame, so should we be victorious will post an update.

It's a novel idea that could be practical. But, it's made of cheap, thin, gaudy tin.
