Was chasing down some evap system codes in my 03 tahoe LT 5.3 and I knew I had to change the charcoal canister so I figured while I'm under there, replace a simple $20 part. My old one broke in half while removing so I guess it was a good thing I bought this one. Ha!

There are a few kinds of vent solenoid switches depending on year of car/truck. Price seemed good and it matched the old one.

If money is tight, last photo is what dirt I tapped out of unit, an hours worth if work may gimp you by for a whike.I layed feet first across truck. Pull metal tab 1st photo, remove electrical on back. push from around behind fill tube (3rd photo) and/or pull shake unit out. Twist horizontally and tuck under cab remove the 1/2" bolt on mount. Twist unit between cab and bed (unit up). Next part took me 3 good tries. (Photo 2) The connection has a hard plastic ring at base you need to pinch. (2 hands) push unit into connector then push the ring pinch points and then wiggle push the unit up and out. Reverse it. Push new unit into connector, horizontal under cab and I found it easier to push tab from the beginning in and sliding it on the unit as I twisted it back into place. You have a guide pin (5th photo) to line up the bolt. Then reconnect the quick electrical on the back.When reinstalling don't keep it between bed and cab and put the mount on. It wont clear to twist into place. Dont zip tie this out of laziness. It has a breather side (dirt clogs) and is angle how it is to minimize this and drainage. Mine was OEM and 18 years old.

Fixed my error code. I think this valve is supposed to vent the tank when the truck is off and close so a vacuum can be drawn when running. If it fails, same as gas cap off as far as emissions system knows. On my 1999 Sierra it was difficult to install. It was located on the bed support bracket, above the frame, beside the tank on driver's side. I could only get one hand on it. I bent the metal tab out to slide it forward to dismount. Electrical connection is on the back side. Lift tab to pull off. The hose is hard to get off. I pulled out the hose retainers and pulled it to the center between the bed and cab so I could get my hands on it. Reattached the hose and reversed removal. It was difficult, but saved me hundreds of dollars. Don't worry about resetting the light. If that was the problem and you got it connected right, the light will go out with a short drive. (pulls a vacuum)
