It was a difficult part to find until I went on to Amazon, the original had broken and was irrepairable, its almost 4 years of using it and gears seem to change as needed.

It looks just like the original part. I think this would work perfect if I could get the bottom segment of the broken part out. Until I am willing to tear the whole assembly out I am still using the chopstick(see youtube) and this is in the glove compartment.For TJ owners that still have a working shifter, it is so easy and fast to replace before it breaks, do it profolacticly every five years. That way your stranded wife wont call you on a freeky cold morning saying the car wont shift out of park. No tools, just pull the T-handle up and off, swap the part and shove the T-handle down into place.

Probably works for other cars but it's too short for a 2000 jeep Cherokee. I'm not sure if there's anywhere to get this part for a Cherokee aside from junkyards or used on ebay.

update: at first i was pretty dejected with it not working, but after thinking about it over night , i had 1 last idea to try out. and maybe this will work for those looking for a fix , but this isn't the right part. it is the right part , however for certain jeeps it is too long. i cut the bottom piece off and dropped that part into the shifter so it sits on the bottom , you need this part in there or the round parts of the rod will slide down. then i cut one of the bottom ball parts off leaving just a lil bit under the last ball. and it fit perfectly. shifts perfectly between drive and park. the only issue is if its too long your keys will be locked in because it won't click in park. so it needs to be the right length. hopefully this helps some one that has the same issues i had.

Good alternative parts for Jeep wrangler TJ 97 4.0 automatic shift release link. 5 stars for good solid Dorman product. But this item is made in China. Any way it's well made solid piece. Original factory fitted shift link time to change after few more month. It's working last 17 years, I changed the Mopar shifter knob new piece. This is for emergency kit for me, these items are difficult to find in the market. This item details says ''Comes with retaining clip'' but I did not received any extra clip with box. Hope Amazon will inform to Dorman products company that their items are short in the box.

Great for my 2005 jeep wrangler! Couldn't get the old linkages out but! Trimmed 3 links off and boom! Slapped my hand on top of it. And now I can use it once again like before instead of my finger pushing down on the metal steel to move gears. Haha good times.
