I have a 1996 Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger). It is common on this old of a truck for the plastic odometer gear to crumble. It will likely happen when you press the reset tab, which is what happened to me. After watching a helpful YouTube video on how to replace the gear, I was able to replace the old with the new in a short period. Once completed, everything worked as it should including the odometer. Although the gear was a bit pricy for what it is, I am satisfied with my purchase.

If the odometer on your Econoline van goes out but the speedometer still works, this is most likely your culprit. It is not easy to install, you have to take the entire instrument cluster out and disassemble the back. The hardest parts are getting the ribbon cable reinstalled and reinstalling the shift indicator in the bottom of the cluster. HOWEVER, this part is much cheaper than even a junkyard cluster with the wrong mileage and questionable gear. This gear pushed right on, and after making sure all of the old gear was cleaned off a bit of white lithium grease had everything working smoothly and my trip meter works flawlessly. There are installation videos on youtube and as long as you have an afternoon to kill and don't rush it this is a cheap fix for a common problem.

ford deal wanted huge amount of money to replace the cluster. 30 min and a15$ part all fixed. Several videos on line with how to do instructions on a 97 E250 van. the original had turned to basically dust.

At 96,393 miles the worm gear broke on my 1997 Lazy Daze motor home. Thanks to a YouTube video by Chris Fix, the instructions were pretty straightforward, but the job was still daunting due to it being a 26-year old plastic gauge cluster with delicate ribbon cables. Still saved myself $300 over taking it to shop. Side note, this gear is significantly over priced for what it is...

Worked perfect on 1997 Ford E350 van. Original gear was broken and not working. Pulled cluster, installed new gear, odometer works perfectly now.

My Odometer stopped spinning at 77xxx miles, took my dash apart to remove my gauge cluster, took apart the cluster and found that the worm hear deteriorated (common issue on a lot of 90s Fords) ordered this as a replacement and it works as intended. My miles spins once again!

Did the trick to fix my 1996 Ford Ranger odometer. Fit was a bit tight on the odometer motor shaft. Had to use a vise to press on. But better tight than loose. The installation is easy enough, but of course there is a.lot of work to do to remove the gage cluster and get at the odometer. Also seemed a tad expensive for a piece of plastic, but it is precision machined, so I suppose that jacks up the price. The original gear lasted 22 years, so I would hope never to need another one. So guess the $$$ was worth it.

Way to expensive for such a small piece but it did fit and now my odometer works on my 1998 expedition.
