Trying to grow a small orchard in my backyard and didn't want to use cancer-causing Glyphosate which is the only other true method of killing a tree beyond grinding down the stump. I'd heard about the copper nail trick but didn't really believe it.We have a row of invasive trees along a fence on our property which had been overgrown and blocking sunlight for the fruit trees. I'd already cut the trees down the year previously but they started sprouting new branches constantly - we'd cut the branches back but they kept coming! So I tried the copper nail trick - used a hammer to bash away the bark on some roots near the base of the tree, drilled a pilot hole and carefully hammered the nail as close to a large root or near the base of the tree (I only used one maybe two nails per tree, NOT anywhere near the recommended amount I'd read online for trees this size - 9" or larger diameter tree stumps).I installed nails in five out of six trees along that row, all identical in size. I left the sixth tree as a control for testing. That was last September. By this August, my wife commented how the trees were dead - the branches had stopped growing and the leaves wilting. I can confirm that all five of the trees I used nails have died one year later. The sixth tree is still growing branches and we keep trimming it back.I had my doubts about this old trick, but I'm a believer now! The price is fair for what you get, the nails are thick enough to nail into the tree AFTER you pre-drill a pilot hole. Just make sure you remove some bark and get low to the base of the tree - aim for an exposed root if possible.I'm so impressed I'm coming back and ordering another half a dozen packs of nails to clear out some invasive trees to make way for more productive fruit trees!

I have used these nails on three shrubs, same species. First one is showing signs it is not doing well with copper nail in it. The larger of the three shrubs (I cut them all down to the ground), has much resilience-it may taken more nails. The third is showing signs it needs more. I hammered these nails in late Fall of this year, so it will likely be Spring before the final results are in.

We purchased this to halt the tree stump roots attempt to grow a forest. Within a few weeks we noticed that all the existing shoots had shriveled and there were no new shoots coming up.

They didn't work for me. I bought a different product that worked. Keith

Assisted in the demise of my unwanted burdensome tree. Stuck some in my neighbor’s tree without them knowing as well. It’s not doing to good now!
