The DH 1051 Heater is very nice at first. But if you don't want to be married to wick maintenance, AVOID this model!!! I have used a DuraHeat DH 2304 for eight years and have NEVER had to touch the wick!!! I have had this for one month and have been in there over 10 times!!! Just this season, the wick finally has worn out! BUT, if you insist on having this model, you had better stock up on part number 22A three pin PINNED WICK !!! The part number listed in this manual is a DH 249 and is very hard to find. Use part number 22A. This heater should be recalled!!!!

My old kerosene heater had some issues so I got this one, works very nice, a big snow storm was coming so I was happy that Amazon delivered quickly and early enough in the day so I could have it in time before the big storm hit my area. Before I purchased this I owned the Dura Heat 2304, the larger model. It worked very well, but was sometimes too warm. It was also unwieldy to carry out to the garage to extinguish. Possible, but hard to carry. Kerosene heaters let off a smell when you light or extinguish them, at least when running off 1-K kero from the pump. These heaters allow me to use our finished basement in the winter, when it would otherwise be miserable.So, this model 1051 is very conveniently sized. You can easily (carefully and gently) move it around. This one is not quite as well designed as the larger model. You have to manually lift the burner ring handle to light, and it is generally just a bit more finicky than the larger model. You will soon grow accustomed to its quirks. Sometimes when adjusting the flame the safety release will drop the wick, and you have to release it all the way and crank it back up. Surprisingly, this does not emit an odor so it's not too bad.Like all of these heaters, it requires adjustment at 5 mins and 30 mins, and then occasional checking/adjustment, but this smaller one really doesn't hit its stride in terms of super efficient, stable flame, until about 1 hour. It gives off a good amount of heat, never overpowering like the larger one. With these heaters, you cannot adjust temperature; you adjust the flame for efficiency and safety, not output.The advantages, other than size, is that it has clear glass like a lantern. The flame gives off good light and is very pleasing to look at - and easy to monitor.I chose this over one of the boxy models because I like the lantern form and I'd read about wick issues with those.The fuel gauge correctly shows when full, but errs on the conservative side, probably on purpose. Showing 1/4 it seems to have about 1/2 left. Just know that it burns about 10oz/hour.When I drop the wick release, it does not fully extinguish. It probably would, after smoldering a bit, but I just lift the ring and blow it out - no big deal. It did this from day one, so it's not from buildup. Doesn't really bother me.Even though I like the larger model a little more, I will use this one far more often because of the convenience and economy.If you experience flames dying down, your kero may have condensation from temperature changes. A "Mr. Funnel" to remove water from fuel is your friend; keeps these burning well.Side note: Kerosene heaters are amazing for power outages. This one outputs the same energy (as heat) as a 3000W generator, and obviously the larger would be over 6000W. But they consume approx. 1/3 the fuel compared to a generator (yes, pump 1-K is double the price of gas, but kero is still cheaper with storage advantage). With kerosene heaters, you can get by with a small 4-stroke generator for your power needs if you are willing to rough it a bit, running the fridge, electronics, and a few LED lights.UPDATE 01/2017Well, after almost a year I agree with everything I originally posted. I have a spare wick but have not needed it. I've run it about 30 days, usually for about 8-10 hours at a time. After the season, I burned it dry and this year I cleaned it up a bit, and brushed the wick with an old toothbrush to clean off deposits and then vacuumed it gently. Its working as good as new. I love it. OUr finished basement with home theater would be unusable in winter without this, and since we're renters kero heaters were the easiest solution. I have a 1500w electric space heater but it's not warm enough during the really cold days.

Wick burns down too fast, now having to light unit manually. Wick lite once from auto lighting system, then it was manually lite every time after. Beyond that, heats the room fast and protects from dangerous gas. Would look for one with a better wick system thou. I may need to change wick in less then a year on this model, which isn't right. It should have lasted two to three years on one wick. not one.

Very cheaply made. Igniter never worked- the lever is broken. Just not the quality I want for the price. I have to manually light it everytime. I'd return it but it's my source of heat. As far as a heater, that gives you 2 stars coz this little heater rocks.EDIT*****do not buy this unless you are thoroughly familiar with this style of kerosene heaters******* We have had to take this apart 3 times to trim the wick and other service issues; not cutting off when knocked into, lots of soot (the wick problem). You MUST clean the wick often. This would be great used infrequently in a hunting cabin. Not good for everyday use like I'm doing. This is 2 months out and going to buy another source of heat today.****** This is a true buyer beware.
