If you're using the auger in a regular power drill then you'll need this adapter. It slides into the end of the auger and is secured with a clevis pen. The end fits any half inch drill chuck.

This worked great to attach my earth auger bit to my SDS hammer drill.

I had to install a few fence posts for a short fence. I opted for 4" holes since I really don't think I need any bigger holes. I already have a strong SDS hammer drill and a 4" auger bit. I don't have an auger anymore. Instead of buying another auger, I just wanted to try this adapter before I buy something that I won't be using too often. I have to say that it works pretty well for what I need. I only needed to go about 2 1/2 feet into the soil. It took only seconds to do each hole. The drill was not struggling at all. What I was drilling was just top soil over Mississippi river sand, so it wasn't anything tough. Occasionally I would hit a clay or rock. The drill would torque quite a bit. I wouldn't go much large that 4" with the drill I have. The handles were not long enough to control the torque safely. So if you are in the same situation, please beware you could hurt your wrists when the bit hit a hard spot with a large bit. Other than that, I highly recommend this adapter for smaller auger bits. For bit larger than 4", you need a drill with long enough handles to control the torque. The adapter itself seems very tough. I don't think you can break it easily. The bit fits my drill well, and the bit fits the adapter just as well.

Good for loose soil not for heavy drilling.

I like this adapter because it allows me to use more tools with my Hammer drill. This adapter connects to an SDS plus chuck and the other end attaches to an auger or different tool. The auger end secures to the auger with a bolt and nut. There is a large hole to slide a bolt through. This is a small, but handy adapter to keep in your hammer drill case.
