Powerful, stable and a great buy. I wasn't overly impressed with the table, which is a bit rickety, and changing papaer can be a bit difficult, but for the amount of use I give it, and it's performance I give it a "Buy" rating over anything else in it's class.

Works excellent for my small grinding jobs. I bought to use for squaring and tuning thin wall round tube cuts. Works excellent in this capacity. Does vibrate when coming up to speed and if switched off while slowing down if you don’t use the brake. Vibrations while at working rpms are minimal and do not affect what I do negatively. Great sander for the money.

Unit arrived in a reasonable time. A 100 grit pad was installed which was a little aggressive for wood, but not a problem. I can change the pad with an expected amount of effort. Set up was fairly easy & unit turned on without a problem. That is where the positive part of this review stops. The platen, or aluminum disc, that the sanding pad adheres to wobbled nearly 1/4 inch. When it spun up to speed it just about shook the windows out of their frames and nearly changed the paint color on the walls. It wasn't loose, it was just badly out of round. I cut out the center of the sanding pad to get to the screw & pulled the platen off. The motor shaft had zero runout, so the platen was just poorly made.I attempted several times to contact the Eastwood company with no results. They did not answer any phone number I could find on Google, and never replied to any email I sent them through the "contact us" link on their website. No parts list was available for this unit so I couldn't even find a part number for the platen. The motor shaft size is 0.598 inches, which is a strange size, so no other replacement platen I could find online would fit. After not using the unit I paid for for a while, and getting absolutely no response from the Eastwood company, I chose to do what any self respecting do-it-yourself-er would do and attacked the problem. I pulled the sanding disc & cleared off the adhesive and was shocked at what I found. The platen had obviously been installed before the unit was sprayed black, and there was copious amounts of run-over paint on 1/3 of the platen, hardened into 15 large drips. A sanding pad had been slapped onto this surface before packaging! The edge and back of the platen were likewise covered in globs of paint. At this point I used a grinder with a flap disc to clean off the entire platen, front, edge & back. After reinstalling platen & tightening, the wobble was better, but still way too much. I spent some time with a dead-blow mallet "straightening' the platen and got it down to roughly 1/16 inch of runout. Then I spent some more time doing something very dangerous and crazy: I turned on the sander and used the grinder/flap disc to smooth out the platen and try to take down some of the rough aluminum and flatten it some more. After another 1/2 hour I managed to get the surface down to 1/32 runout and the unit didn't shake the garage door rollers out of the hinges and cause the overhead light bulbs to turn odd colors. A new adhesive disc & reassembly and now I have a mostly usable machine.A unit needing this much work to make it more or less usable is, to put it mildly, ridiculous. A company that will not respond to any attempt at contact is unacceptable. I will not be purchasing any product from the Eastwood company again and I cannot recommend this or any other Eastwood product to anyone.Don't purchase this unit. You may get a decent one, like some of the other reviewers, but you may also get a nightmare you have to spend hours trying to fix yourself as this company seems to be rather poorly managed and has zero customer service.

This thing reminds me of the way power tools and equipment used to be made! It runs well, runs fairly quiet, has a built in saw dust collector with area to attach a shop vac.It is solid and very heavy. I'm very satisfied with the quality. Wish it was a bit cheaper but you get what you pay for I guess.

Overall, the sander is well built. The disk is flat and works well for sanding. However, the shaft isn't centered in the disk so as the disk rotates, the outer edge is off by 1/16" as measured at the brake on the top. Not a problem for sanding, but when I press the brake it's like hitting rumble strips on the road with your car.

I've always wanted a 12 inch disc sander for my home shop and this was the best reviewed and price for the money. I've used these sanders in my line of work and the only problem I really had was, it runs counter clockwise? You have to grind on the left side of the disc? I'm definitely changing the rotation, as I'm always throwing sparks in my face due to the habit of grinding on the right side of the high dollar clockwise ones I still use at work. It's still a great sander though.

August 2020, received disc sander and very refreshing to see such a solid heavy machine is still manufactured. Reminds me of great old tools from the 50s and 60s. Assembly very easy, put some wax in the groove on the table to lessen the squeaking. Works great so far, no vibration, very well balanced

I have no problem with Eastwood, as they are only the vender. The quality of the manufacturing is below par, however. The first one I received had a very bad vibration. The platen (disk) Eastwood replaced it no problem. However, the second one had the same problem but not quite as bad. Not wanting to waste a ot of time returning these things I did a little investigating. I removed the platen and the vibration stopped so I took the platen to a machine shop and had them true up the edge as it was egg shaped and out of balance. Now I have a disk sander but It cost me to have this brought into useable condition. For one thing I had to ruin the sanding disk in order to get it off the platen, also my time and machining costs. All of this could have been alleviated by the factory producing quality rather than quantity. For the guy who just wants a quality machine in order to do quality work, buy something else.
