I purchased an Eberspacher 12 Volt S2 D2L 2.2KW diesel heater to replace two Chinese Diesel heaters. The Chinese heaters were purchased early 2023 and did not make it through the winter season. The first Chinese heater would run perfectly with nice dry heat for about three hours then it would send out thick white smoke and stop and could not be restarted. The display would show error code E-08 which means no fuel. There was plenty of fuel and no blockage or air bubbles in the fuel lines so I feel the error code was incorrect as the heater was burning extremely rich. I disassembled the heater and found it full of thick carbon buildup. I cleaned the burn chamber, replaced the gaskets, glow plug and fuel screen with new parts and tried again. The heater performed the same it ran for about 3 hours then sent out thick white smoke, stopped and could not be restarted. After 3 hour of continuous operation the unit would choke up with carbon and need a cleaning. I purchased a second Chinese unit that did not run at all. I then purchased an Eberspacher 12 Volt S2 D2L 2.2KW diesel heater. The installation was similar to the Chinese heaters. I am glad to report this heater has kept us warm for up to a week in temps down to 17F. I set the thermostat at 68F and it has been very reliable. The Eberspacher also has a much quieter fuel pump.

Instructions were in German only. The fuel pump leaves a lot to be desired and is the most problematic thing in this kit.The quality of the heater is great, much better than the cheap ones from China and has already outlived the two previous cheap ones combined.

The high altitude adjustment has assured seamless use at ski resorts. During COVID, we took all breaks in the van. We ski at at a mountain top lodge resort that 8000 ft. in the parking area. The Espar heater very quickly warmed our insulated van with no risk of CO2 gases. We've dry camped at 10,000 ft. and the heater worked seamlessly keeping us comfortable all night long even in high winds and freezing temps. The only observation that some may view as negative is that the thermostat range is pretty significant in that the temp has to drop 5+ degrees degrees below the setting before it kicks on and it runs until it's well past the temp setting. We keep the setting in the mid-50's to reduce the yo-yo. After 5 years of regular use, we had a winter where we did not use the heater much and are having it serviced because it was not functioning well (slow or no start and then prematurely shutting down). Our RV builder had told us to run the heater very hot for awhile to burn off the fuel completely. We failed to do that last winter. After years of freezing while camping, I highly recommend the Espar. It's a luxury worth the money.

So I’ve installed a few of these units and there are subtle differences in what components work with certain units. The frustrating thing with this one was once completed hooked up correctly with the easy start. The east start was throwing and error code of (NO HEATER) after way to much time spent on research I found that if it happens and you have power and the correct resistance to swap the blue and/red wire & the blue/brown with one the micro pin connector to the east start. They do include a new connector pin, I’m assuming for this reason.Once that was installed it’s operated smoothly.Another gripe is it has a very short exhaust hose so you’re very limited as to where you can rout it.You’ll also need to order a gas connect for the sprinter. That is not included in the kit.Once the kinks are worked out it’s a good unit.
