Consumer-Friendly Experience

  • Yes, you can. A landscape fabric, also known as weed fabric, serves as a thin barrier to weeds. This material is porous, so it allows water, air, and other nutrients to be consumed by garden plants.

  • The primary idea behind landscape fabric usage is that it can totally eliminate weed growth in the garden or landscape designs.

  • There are various types of landscape fabric. In most of those types, the felted side goes down, while the shiny one goes up. This pattern must be followed to ensure that the fabric will slightly stick to the soil and minimize sliding.

  • A landscaping fabric is designed mainly to help control weeds in the garden, landscapes, planting beds, patios, and under decks filtration, save on mulching, and ward off weeds from growing.

  • Landscape fabric and filter fabric are sometimes deemed to have similar functions. However, they are completely two different products.

I recently did an overhaul/upgrade to my garden and added some new above ground planters. When I first installed the old planters years ago, I didn't put down any barrier cloth to reduce/prevent weeds from growing, taking up my plant nutrients and stealing their water and I was forever pulling up weeds from my garden. I regretted not putting down any barrier and vowed to not repeat the mistake. So when I installed my new planters, this was the first thing to hit the ground. It's pretty thick material and I got the 4'x50' roll, plenty enough for my needs with some left over. While I won't know how well this barrier works until sometime this summer, it certainly seems capable of preventing weeds from growing up and taking over my planters. I used shears to cut it to length and it was pretty easy to lay out (it was a bit windy that day and I just weighted the corners down with a couple of rocks, but a two person installation would help) and I have every hope that this will perform as intended.

Bought this product back in May and though it was good, When I ordered additional I bought from another company due to cheaper price for same item, or at least that is what it seemed. Only to find I needed to replace the cheaper one as it did not work near as well. This weed barrier is worth the extra price, I found out the hard way.

I bought this product last year for a raised bed project. It has a smooth side and a fuzzy side. Fuzzy side goes down. I do not cover this with mulch or anything. It lasted with no rips or tears even with foot traffic. The water does not pool on it. It allows water through it very well. I ordered two more roll for this year. The first roll was same as last years, the second had fuzzy side fine but the smooth side had a lot of fuzzy coming through so it was consistent with the other. Looks like a manufacture oops. I put it down anyway and it seems to be performing well. Just a different look. I have two layers down now and it still allows water through easily. No Weeds! Even without wood chips or cover of any kind. If not for double sided fuzzy, I would give it 5 stars.

I had only used some el cheap ground cloth in the past. This cost a little more but is so easy to work with, easy to cut, and lies well even after being in a roll. We put in a retaining wall around the south end of our home, and this was so easy to lay out and secure with those things that look like little croquet wickets. I put 28 plants in it, and the lines made it really easy to keep my plants lined up in places where I wanted to do that. Three weeks later we are still waiting for our mulch delivery to go on top, and after a lot of storms and rain, the cloth is still in place and looks neat and tidy. Will definitely use it again.

We bought this to cover an area around some bushes where I just couldn’t keep up with the weeds. This works fantastic! It’s been a few weeks and I have seen a single weed in the whole area. I think I’ll try this on my raised garden next spring.

Heavy Duty landscape fabric, for sure. You can tell this stuff will work based on feeling it - it's thick. The heaviest you might find in a hardware store is 4.1 oz and this comes in at 5 oz, so if that's what you need, it might be worth the value. But, you can get a roll of 6ft x 250ft for for far less elsewhere if you can deal with a littler smaller weight. We have serious weeds and roots so I figured it was worth the extra expense for some heavier fabric. It's held up over the season, so I can't complain. But I was sad to see that I probably could have gotten away with spending less because I can't imagine a 4.1oz option is that much worse. Consider your options and if this is definitely what you need...it is the best value I have found in that regard.
