Originally Reviewed for Tea and Book[...]The uniqueness and originality alone was enough to capture my attention. Add in an entire race living in secret, striving to remain functional in a world that in many ways is beginning to surpass them. Then finding out that all is not what you thought it was, it never is. Toss in some secret and forbidden loves and voila!! you have a masterpiece in the making. Now you just need an author who can tell a story. Fortunately J.T. Geissinger has that part down pat!Ember Jones lives a quiet live of well desperation. Six years previously she was driving the car that killed her mother and her brother (August).. It destroyed their entire family along with Ember's budding career as a premier cellist. Unable to face the life they had, Ember (her real name is September--guess which month's she and her brother were born in) her father fled to Spain, to begin a life as expatriots. Life never really got better for the two of them. Ember's father, a well known but not rich artist, remarried the stepmother from Cinderella and Ember suffered for it. But because she blamed herself for the accident she felt she deserved all the angst she got. Until one day a man more good looking than anyone had a right to be walked into her bookstore.Christian McLoughlin a powerful Ikati, with powers that are second only to his brother's and maybe not even him, walked into a second hand books store looking for a rare Ian Fleming book (I know made me smile too). What he found was a woman who seemed professional and reserved with everyone but him. She just didn't like him and he had no clue why not. So of course be the curious cat that he is, he delved deeper and found a woman worth knowing. Worth loving, worth living for, worth dieing for! A woman he would gladly give his life to and for. Except his life is already committed to the Ikati and to destroying Caesar's reign of terror.Talk about a romance that should never be, It is forbidden to mate with humans.. it is forbidden to share the Ikati with anyone not Ikati.. Christian's own brother's wife's father.. the former King of the Ikati had been tortured and killed for doing just that. And yet Christian can not help falling for this seemingly insignificant woman. A woman who believes in him.. It's a powerful story and one where we so want true love to conquer all. But as in all such stories, it's not the love that conquers all, it's the actions that love causes.Christian, for all intents and purposes had gone to Spain to die.. a suicide mission, for the good of his people and yet he met his mate. How can any man leave a mate behind? How can he serve his people when he is not serving his mate? It's a true dilemma and one really, no one should have to choose. The individual? Or the Greater Good (as many of you know I HATE that phrase and will always pick the individual)? It's a hard choice? A hard decision when extreme evil must be wiped out. And when you are not even sure who all the players are. While Christian was gathering information, and courting Ember, he let the cat out of the bag (literally) and changed in public.. of course it was recorded and those ancient enemies who want to destroy the demons and the new enemies that want to "study" *cough*torture*cough* them all arrive in Spain. Talk about a convergence of evil.Ms Geissinger once again captivates with her Night Prowlers Series!! I am so excited to have been offered the chance to read this book and yet sad as well. With this book written we are that much closer to the end of the Ikati.. As Ms Geissinger only plans to write six books in this series.. Wonder if we can find a way to convince her to write more?A great book in a great series..ShauniThis review is based on the ARC of Edge of Darkness, provided by netgalley

I loved this book. I love seeing more of Christian and who he is, other than the Alphas little brother, that he has his own secrets, that he respects his brother and does things for his own reasons without any ulterior motives. I love that he is an all around good guy.Ember is an excellent female lead. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the Ikati accept her, regardless of her heroics. I want to hear more of their story. They need a second book.I love how the sub plots moved along quite well, and expanded just a little. There is plenty of material for more books. Keep them coming please.

J.T. Geissinger writes very well, and never fails to entertain me. I find the Night Prowler novels to be witty, funny, charming, action packed, heartfelt, thoughtful, and at times heart-wrenching. The characters are quite well developed, and despite the fact that these are romance novels and thus full of the fake romance smut, the plots are well done and the character interactions are (mostly) believable. I don't read these for the sex scenes. I read these for the supernatural creatures and associated plot. And in these novels, the story is more significant than the smut, which I appreciate. I also appreciate the honesty with which Geissinger builds each character, giving them flaws and making them relatable. The story flows well, sucks you in, and you don't want to put it down.As for Edge of Darkness specifically, I found it lived up the the reputation built by the previous ones in the series. It could be read on its own, but I wouldn't recommend it. Geissinger builds with each novel, main themes continue, and the characters stretch throughout the series. You'll be missing out if you only read one. For those who dislike the smut, this book isn't laden with it, and it is pretty easily skimmed over. If you do like the smut, the scenes are ample and vivid and while there aren't too many, you'll still enjoy them. The plot moves along well, keeps you guessing, and gets you 'involved'. This book is centered around Christian, and if you've read the previous books in the series, you've been waiting for it to be 'his turn'. I liked the spunk Ember brings, and the dynamics, but felt there were points and parts that were lacking a bit. I get that they were for 'surprise effect', but it left me feeling like like some scenes were clipped and not fleshed out enough. Some things happened with little back story and I would have liked more. There were minor 'plot holes' but they didn't detract from the overall too much. That being said, I enjoyed the book thoroughly, laughing at points, tearing up at others, mad at others. I like when a story involves me like that. I won't go over plot points, as that would spoil the story, you'll just have to read it to find out. Its a good book, I recommend it, and I eagerly await the next in the series. I can't wait to find out who's 'turn' it will be, and how it will be connected...

I feel so bad for the Ikati and what humans are doing and how they judge. I'm so happy Christian finally finds his love and they make it in the end but not without some really intense issues. Well worth the read!

This one was totally devoid of what all the other three have, something exactly am not able to pinpoint though, but this one was also totally exhilarating as the other three.

I love Christian (the main character who we first met in book 1) and was so happy to see him find the happiness that Leander and Jenna found! I love the little updates we got on a couple of series favourites through him as well!I adored Ember even if she made me want to slap her sometimes for her determination to run from Christian and many of the judgements she made but at the same time I can really understand her cause while I haven't had the tragedy she's experienced in my life I have suffered from anxiety, depression and extremely low self-esteem so I can understand that irrational misery and self-loathing that Ember displayed throughout the book. It's not an easy thing to break and I'm glad she has a great friend like Asher to show her tough love and make her seek help as well as the fact that she know has Christian to help her get better. The ending is a bit of a cliff-hanger and the colonies troubles aren't as resolved as they think they are! I'm dying to get the next book to see what happens and if they find a resolution and get the peace and freedom from persecution they deserve. I just wish we could have seen Ember meeting Christian's family! I know they'll welcome her with open arms cause she makes Christian so happy. I'm also glad that thanks to Jenna Christian and Ember won't be treated like Jenna's parents were!I highly recommend this book and series!

Each book I this series just keeps getting better and better. It was so, so good seeing Christian get his happy ever after and Ember is such a wonderfully strong woman, even though she, herself may think she's weak.I can't wait to read the next installment of this amazing series and see where it all goes.
