This magnet is ideal for the classic demonstration of magnetic lines with iron filings. A small compass aligns itself with the magnetic lines. I suspect it is made of Alnico, which was the standard a few decades ago, but it is not as strong as rare earth magnets which are more popular now and which do not work well for making the patterns with iron filings. It is neatly packaged and is supplied with a "keeper" which helps it retain its magnetism.

Not very powerful for science projects. We needed to magnetize a needle and it wouldn't work. Complete waste of money.

Nice little magnet. Much better than the toy department magnets. I bought it for my six year old, and he likes it alot. It's not extremely powerful, but good enough for children learning about magnets. Too small for kids under 3.
