The retort base is made of corrosion resistant, powder coated pressed steel, and features a tapped hole, suitable for connecting the included rod, or any other rods with a 10mm x 1.5mm metric thread. The base weighs 1.7 lbs and measures 8" long, 5" wide and approximately 1.5" in height, providing good stability for basic experiments & setups. Included steel rod weighs 1.15 lbs, measures 23.6" (60cm) tall, 12mm in diameter and features a 10x1.5mm metric thread. The durable and sturdy construction of this set makes it an excellent choice for science classrooms, household laboratories & basic professional laboratories.

I was very happy with the quality of these stands. Fit and finish were great. I only gave it 4 stars for sturdiness, because the base isn't terribly heavy -- maybe 1 or 2 lbs. It's not flimsy by any means, but if you're expecting a 5 lb hunk of cast iron, you'll find this base to be lighter than you want.The rod is a single piece of steel (stainless I think), that's well machined. It even comes with a thread protector to avoid shipping damage. If you're looking for something to hold your chemistry gadgets, I think you'll be happy with these. Unfortunately, I needed 2 of these as part of a stand alone system for bracing some sensitive electronics. The rest of my bracing consists of 12mm hardened steel chromed shafts with aluminum couplings and support blocks. The problem for me is that the rod on these retorts is actually about 11.65 mm, which is too small for my couplings and support blocks to clamp to.

The stand is solid, but I'd prefer a lock nut to secure the post to the base. The post tends to unscrew from the base. Guess I will have to try lock-tite.

We use this Eisco Lab stand and rod set as christmas present. We converted it to a drip coffee maker. We made two of these drip coffee makers out of two lab stands and our family loves them. Nice and sturdy plus the base edges are rounded to prevent scratching.

threading really doesn't match up well so I wasn't able to install properly. It gets 3 stars bc it still works.
