This 5 gallon bucket and lid worked out well for my dog's food. Secure top and good quality bucket. I would recommend this product.

Still had to snap the ring onto bucket, was hoping was already done. That's the main downside as it can be a chore of you're not a strapping young man. Twist action is fair enough, gets the job done but not the smoothest. For the price, it does the job and I would buy again.

Some things are better off in larger containers. That presents a dilemma. Do I just pour the product (rice, beans, flour) into the larger container or break it up into smaller ones first? I have mixed reactions to this. For things like beans and maybe rice, bulk storage might work well assuming that I intend to finish the food item once I open the container in an event situation. Others like flour seem better off in plain baggies with an oxygen absorber because the primary protection is this bucket. It keeps out the light ans presents an air-tight environment where I can add more oxy absorbers in the general space. Either way, once opened, the environment is lost and I should use up or trade the contents if I can.The closure is top notch with an easy twist to operate the lid. The food quality tub is also a must for the best storage. I expect to get more of these. This is a must for anyone into food storage. My prepper score is 5 out of 5.1 = do not buy2 = has issues that dilute usefulness3 = may or may not be useful; might depend on your situation4 = good item with minor caveats5 = you need this

These buckets and lids are excellent. The buckets appear to be of high quality (though most 5-gallon buckets are quite similar). The handles appear to be sturdy, but I haven't had to use them for anything particularly heavy yet. The outer rim of the lids is a bit difficult to force onto the bucket, but this makes sense as they need to form a seal. The lids screw into the outer frame very well and create an excellent seal.My only qualm with these buckets and lids is their seemingly large price tag. At $44.99 at the time of writing this for three buckets with lids, that puts them around $15 per bucket. While this is significantly more than what you would pay for a standard 5-gallon bucket, it is important to remember that these are food-grade buckets and that you are also purchasing the airtight sealing lids. With these factors in mind, I still don't believe it is a terrible value for the price, although I do feel it is slightly high.

So this bucket and lid combo are just fine. The bucket is indeed a black HDPE No. 2 bucket, which is consistent with Food storage. The lid is the same Gamma brand Gamma Seal Screw lid as stated. So technically the description is accurate. At $20 for a single bucket/lid combo I would go down to menard's where I can get the same food-safe bucket for $8 and the lid for $7 and save $5. Don't buy this, not recommended.

I got this bucket and I am happy with it. It is solid and stiff and made very well. The handle is strong and does not give away at all to the weight in the bucket. The lid and it’s ability to seal is the star of the show. It is so absolutely tight and firm that there’s no question it is airtight. This thing is really robust and a very good buy.

These buckets and lids are a good addition to our emergency preparedness kit. The seal seems to be good, though a longer period of time will be the real measure of their effectiveness for our purpose.Getting the gamma lid on properly requires some attention to the inner lip, so if it feels stuck make sure that part is properly aligned. I do think that snug fit will improve using the buckets for storing loose dry goods. As a quick test for this review I put in two partial bags of rice I had in the pantry (17# and 12#), and they fit but really don't make the most use of the bucket volume. To maximize storage for the long term (and make portioning easier), I'll probably end up storing smaller bags of dry goods - though I do think you could make the larger bags work if needed.10 pound bags of flour are another item I tried that didn't leave much room for other things. Another use I can see is ingredient storage for home brewing, especially for grains and sugars. It's difficult to rate a product lower based mostly on value, but 3 buckets and lids for this price does seem like a lot, given that the same company sells a white version (also 3 count) for almost half the cost.
