Very solid arrowhead. Not quite as stout as a seal harpoon tip but puts me in mind of one otherwise. These things are thick-Over 1/8 of an inch. The cutting edge is about .8 inches wide, and they are just over 2 1/4 inches long (2.330"). They are about 9.5 grams each in weight. They are useably sharp as is, but they are not razor sharp. They are about 9.5 grams or just under 150 grains each in weight, regular broadheads go about 100 to 125 grains I think. I can see these more as atlatl points, something a bit heavier than an arrow point. They will certainly work as intended in an emergency. They would work as a harpoon point for fish and small marine mammals (would dull them a bit for harpoon use), I think the hole is large enough for para cord. I was able to force the shaft into a 1/4 in hole and it was tight enough to stay in but loose enough to come out as a harpoon. Maybe carrying a 1/4 drill bit for this purpose is also a good idea. Easy enough to use by hand.

At first I thought this arrowhead was a bit expensive, but turns out that it's worth every penny. It's razor sharp, powder coated, and ready for any situation you throw at it... or throw it at! There is a slight nub at the end of the shaft to help hold its place on whatever you attach it to. The hole can easily be threaded with 550 cord, twine, or wire to secure the arrowhead to a stick. It feels very durable and at about a quarter ounce should perform perfectly as an arrowhead or spear head. The AH1 it an awesome survival tool, and I am ordering a second one to store with my BOB.Bought mine from seller 'Stealth Rabbit' and it came with an ESEE Randall's Adventure and Training card. Not sure if they always have that or if it's added by the seller, but it's pretty sweet.

Obviously, this is great as a harpoon, but a more useful design for woodland survivalists would be "AH-2?" that I would LOVE to see would be for 2 small holes in the "shaft", a "handle" made of knurled magnesium just big enough to surround the shaft and joined by 2 button head flathead Al or Ti bolts (so one could use a dime or back of a knife to undo). Obviously, a neck wearable sheath screams out loudly to be made as well.

So this really is small... even after reading the all the reviews and dimensions – it’s still somehow smaller than I expected. I have a thin tin that is an inch wide and three inches long that I keep in the pocket of my ESEE 6 sheath and the arrowhead fits in the tin along with a bunch of other stuff. It comes sharp but not sharp like a regular ESEE knife. It is advertised as, “a knife or spear†but it really is not practical as a small knife because of how small it’s blade actually is (even if you lash it to a stick handle). In a pinch you could use it to open an MRE or cut up some paracord, even poke a hole in a can or maybe gut a small fish, but that’s about it.As a spear – this would not work well for anything other than a small fishing spear or maybe a small javelin point for squirrels. It would however work very well as an arrowhead for an arrow. The arrowhead is solid and high quality, exactly what you would expect from ESEE. The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because, even though the dimensions are listed, the “knife or spear†description is misleading… and based on the other reviews, I am not the only one who though it was misleading. In no way would I consider this anything other than an arrowhead (with two sharpened edges). If anyone from ESEE is reading this, double the size of this product and then you will really have a very versatile piece of gear that you can advertise it as a knife, spear head, etc.

Pretty heavy for use as arrowhead, and this shape point tends to “plane†badly, (particularly when combined with field-expedient fletching) but it would certainly work in an emergency. Would make a good spear tip. Awkward to hold when used as a spare cutting edge, although it could be utilized as such in a pinch. Not razor sharp as delivered, but the good steel sharpens well. Lack of a sheath or protective sleeve etc and the potential for rust makes the alternative stainless version sold with kydex sheath the preferred option. The small flat shape does stash easily in any emergency kit. The price probably not warranted by the realistic usefulness of these points in an actual survival scenario.

It's small, as expected. The point is needle sharp, but the edges are less than shave-sharp. I find it difficult to sharpen as I had to clamp the arrowhead and be very careful to sharpen it evenly, as to not throw off it's balance. A carbide V-groove sharpener did the trick. A diamond hone will do well, too. Fairly hard steel. I give it high marks, overall. Mine arrived in bomb-proof packaging.
