We decided to purchase this starter trombone for our son in 6th Grade MS Band. At first we were concerned that it would be cheap and not sound as good. Per our son's band director who has a doctorate in music specializing in brass instruments, this trombone is definitely a great starter instrument. Should my son want to pursue playing in HS, we can decide if we should upgrade to a higher quality instrument. I recommend this instrument. The case did come apart a little bit, nothing that a little Gorilla glue would not fix. All in all, it's been fantastic for my son and he loves playing his trombone at home. I'm not sure I love that part all too much :P

Totally thrilled with this product. My son needed a new trombone. The one he had was a hand me down and quite old. Unfortunately, the dings in the instrument just couldn't be banged out and the sound was not as good as it could be but it worked for a first year trombone player. He is now in his second year and a new trombone was needed. It is not elaborate or ornate but it is well made and the slide works really well. He picked it up the minute he got it and went through his scales. The ease at which he was able to reach notes was wonderful as the old trombone's slide was not working well and he struggled with it. It arrived fast and he will be able to use his new trombone for his ensemble/solo try out that is coming up.

Terrible quality, broken water key, you can’t even find the manufacturer since the brand Etude is associated with cosmetics so something doesn’t check out. Strongly recommend you look at other options. We returned.

I bought this trombone because it was the cheapest i could find anywhere. I have been playing trumpet for 10 years and i wanted to learn the trombone so i didnt want a really expensive one. This one had a great price and is really nice and seems sturdy/well built. I really enjoy it, it has a good sound to it and it has been fun learning the trombone with it. I will definitely recommend this to anybody. Thanks!

My daughter started with this instrument in 6th grade band. I had no confidence she would stick with it, so I did not want to invest a lot of money initially. A friend whose daughter had the same instrument recommended it, so I already knew it was playable and sounded pretty good for the small price tag. My daughter loves the trombone and is now 1/2 way through 8th grade. She used this first her first marching band season. It is harder to play in the extreme ranges when they get to more advanced music. We just upgraded to a better instrument with a bigger bore and F-attachment. She'll still use this Etude instrument for marching band in bad weather or at games. I definitely don't regret this purchase. We got our money's worth out of it. The case is trash, though.

Decent beginner trombone, but we've had to fix the slide twice (which is pricey) due to how the slide fits into the case. Whenever my child pulls it out, it puts extra pressure on the slide and bends it. Her case is the only one where the slide fits down inside a depression of sorts. Maybe the case is deformed. Either way, it's frustrating.

Is a good quality instrument. Good size for my middle schooler.

I was just reading the posts for this trombone. The reason for doing so is that I purchased this trombone a few years ago at a very low, low price and a fellow musician now wants to buy this horn from me for his nephew who is a beginner. I had not played this trombone much at all - once or twice in the three years since my purchase. I figured if nothing else, the metal content was worth the purchase price.Let me also state: I have been a trombonist for 53 years and just purchased my second "new" professional trombone when I got a great deal on one on ebay. Keep my last sentence in mind.Anyway understand:1) The ETB-100 series Etude Student Trombone is made for beginners.2) As I recall from my early trombone years, young people ages 7-12 are very hard on musical instruments. Especially if the horn is played outdoors in a marching band3) At best, with continual use, I estimate this instrument may get the beginning student starting in elementary school through middle school (at best). Say grades 4/5 through grade 8.4) Most kids come and go in music programs ... Why a parent would buy a beginner an intermediate horn for @$1,500 or a professional horn for @$2,500+ is a mystery to me given the wear and tear a beginner can do to a musical instrument.5) Most young beginners have a short attention span and soon move on to the next video game.QUESTION: What happens to a $1,500-$2,500 intermediate or professional trombone provided to a beginner that quits playing after six months or at the end of the school year?ANSWER: Reference my ebay comment above.6) If the youngster stays with the program after a few years ... an intermediate or professional horn purchase after a few years or definitely beginning in high school would be needed. So yes, the horn is not any where near professional quality in terms of sound, slide movement, case construction.IT IS A BEGINNERS HORN and probably likely to show wear very early or later depending on how well (or not) the instrument is cared for.To the writers saying the horn is of poor quality ... well DUH ... You get what you pay for. I paid $110 a few years ago with shipping.Inflation has taken the price up a few dollars since ... but for a $100+ and for a beginning student ... this instrument serves the purpose for which it is intended. That is, an initial introduction into music, initial instruction and playing as a "voice" in a band. If a beginner can sound fairly well with this horn, she / he may sound like Tommy Dorsey / Glenn Miller / Carl Fontana / J.J. Johnson / Frank Rosolino, Dick Shearer, Jiggs Whigham, etc. when he / she advances to a professional trombone.
