Sound Shaping Technology allows the drumheads to be fully optimized for each individual size by varying the thickness and density of the damping material, ensuring greatly improved performance and tone across the entire kit. Unlike other heads that lack SST, Evans EC2s contain the ability to balance attack and tone for each size. The result is a drumhead series fine-tuned for attack, tone, length of sustain, and ease of tuning. Packed with a more balanced and pre-EQ'd sound across the full kit, the Evans EC2 with SST will make your toms sound better than you ever thought possible.

These heads are great for jazz/ fusion and, tuned right can rock. I have them on my 12x10" rack and 14x12 floor. Reso are a king ambassador that is see through.Tuning is everything. They are a P5 apart (low tom D) That old PDP m5 Sing Sing Sings and instigates a Zuit Suit Riot then flips a switch over to happily Take 5 and pay homage to a Led filled Zepplin.Don't overplayed these heads. They won't last.

Replaced all of my top and bottom heads on my toms. It was long overdue. I love the sound of these - they have a deeper tone and not as much reverb. They also seem easier to tune, although I don't have a great ear for that. I mostly play rock and these are a great fit.I still need to use some small surface dampeners as I like a dry sound. They are two-ply and seem very durable, with a great feel. I also happen to think they look sharp as well.

If you are a working drummer who plays rock or similar styles, this may be the drum head for you. Gigging drummers always have to walk the line between great sounding heads and heads that will last long enough to keep you from going broke. The Onyx heads are a nice compromise for drummers like us.Pros:They last a looooong time before needing to be replaced, even for heavy-hitters.They look cool.As a tom pack, they are priced well. Cheaper than competitors. While I wouldn't necessarily record with them, they sound very good in a live setting.Cons:Resonance is sacrificed a bit, due to the 2-ply construction. But if you're buying a 2-ply drum head, then you already know this.Sensitivity isn't a strong suit. I wouldn't play these in a jazz setting. Gotta hit 'em to make 'em ring. All in all, a very good live drum head for working drummers. If you're gigging on a regular basis, save your money and play a good sounding head that lasts. I promise you that the drunk people at the bar can't tell the difference between these and Remo Ambassadors that will last you one show. But your wallet can!

I read in a Reddit post that these were great for shallow toms with no resonator heads like the ones I have on my Pearl Rhythm Traveller kit. I really thought I had outgrown this kit (the first and only I’ve ever had, I’ve had it for 18 years now) as I was getting frustrated with the dull yet annoyingly ringy tone I was getting out of them. This heads make these toms SING! Plus they sounded great from the audience videos, so they pass the performance test with flying colors. I have some moon gel on them, but they sound just as good without it. I’ll probably try them without for my next gig and compare the sound.I feel that these heads are made and marketed toward metal players which isn’t my style, but not only do these sound incredible for the more indie rock sound of my band, but they look great and not nearly as “metal drummer†as I had expected them to. The shiny finish to the coated heads really gives them a cool and unique look that fits especially well with the black finish of my kit.A week of everyday practice and a show later these are definitely showing some normal wear, but I think they’ll last me a long time. And honestly for the price I wouldn’t mind if I need to replace these after a year or two.Overall fantastic heads, highly recommend!

The Evans UV1 is the truth. I still have my personal preferences when it comes to my snare drums, but as for the toms and kick is concerned? A1! I'm currently using them on 2 of my kits. My office at the church is 7pc Yamaha oak custom which is a very loud and robust sounding kit stock. Pairing the UV1 and G1resonant heads together made project more. I also have them on a small 5pc Tama stagestar and they're thunderous also with G1 resonants. I'm ordering 2 16's UVEMAD for all of my floor toms and a 22 for the kick drum on the oak next. Then to my recording customs with the 24inch kick is going to be so Dope! UV1 all day!

I have been playing drums for over 50 years in several genres, and have found Evans heads to neet all my needs. From attack , to even tone dispersion and durability I am always impressed.
