Purchased two and one never worked the second barely worked. Read directions and reviews thoroughly about making sure the alarms were full in the bases before test, etc etc and nothing or on and off success with one. This is a huge safety hazard if people put these up without testing and don’t realize they are defective. Had to return both and then instead purchased the same brand alarm from COSTCO that work with ease right out of the box.

At first, I thought it arrived dead. I hit test, nothing. Dead battery? I read the teeny-tiny directions twice, no help. Googled it. Apparently, the First Alert SMICO110 Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide test button only works when the alarm is firmly seated into its mounting bracket. Firmly press it into its place and it works great.Bad instructions, good alarm. Hope this helps somebody else.

I was concerned because I couldn’t make them work (and I bought six). Remember to set it in the attachment before trying it out. It won’t beep if not attached.

I thought the alarm didn't work. Then I saw comments that it needs to be seated in the mounting bracket to work. That proves to be correct. Unfortunately the user manual neglects to mention this.
