I had one of these years ago, using it under a Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker on a city gas stove. After moving into a place with an electric stove, it landed in the donation box.I purchased a one person cazuela for my morning oatmeal. These are suggested. I pulled diffusers out of the donation box. One is the cast iron, the other older version of this one. I want all my burners covered now. I collect old cast iron skillets and cookers. There is always a hot spot. All cookware has imperfections, including my All Clad, Le Creuset. I live alone now and use the computer for long stretches. I take walks. With these little work horses, my oatmeal does not burn and is ready when I get back. I use organic steel cut oats. I also use the Rancho Gordo beans. These flame tamers (diffusers) with a clay pot create a mini oven without the whole place being heated up. Good with the Chinese sand pots, Japanese Donabis. Got stuck in traffic.. thought I would come back to a mess..the magic combination of diffuser and pot had done their work.. perfectly cooked, not burned just hot and waiting for me. Amazing. Took me about a week to learn to trust it. Freedom !I will be purchasing another. Could not find the same free shipping offer. Try them.. never mind the aesthetics.. I find charm in these little gems. I just leave them under the heavy pots on the stove.. saves my wrist.

We purchased a pair. One of them had a broken handle right out of the box. I attempted to wedge it back into place. When I used it, with broken handle in place, the wood heated to such a degree that it began to blacken and turn to charcoal, before falling off again. This was at the lowest setting on my burner.I haven't tried the other yet, but I'm concerned it will blacken and fall off as well.

I've been buying this type of heat diffuser for decades. They have gotten slowly lighter and less sturdy over the years. Didn't think they could go much below my last one from about six years ago but they have managed to do it. But it still does the job and is still cheap. You will want to...-keep them dry, as they will rust very easily-never use them with anything but a very low heat setting, as the handle will burn awayI use these almost every day, and get my moneys worth and more out of them. Not a high quality product by any means, but still a useful tool in the kitchen, and one I would not be without.

I ordered two of these, one of this brand and one Norpro. They're almost identical. There was a note enclosed that recommended washing before use to prevent smoking. I followed the recommendation and had absolutely no smoking or odor.It works perfectly on my gas stove. I've been frustrated for years because I couldn't adjust the flame low enough to warm or gently simmer sauces and soups.Yes, the wood handle singes near the metal, but it's better than melting plastic or a hot all-metal handle. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm just careful to place it out of direct contact with the flame. It's definitely worth the price.

We cook in charity chili cook offs regularly, and cook on a portable, camping-type stove. Diffusers help to regulate the heat. These prevent scorching, burning, and 'boil overs' as advertised for a good price. However, the wooden handle burns (with discoloration and smell), and the diffuser fell out of the handle within a few uses. So, if you are looking for a quality, re-usable product that will last, look elsewhere. But, if you are looking for an inexpensive functional tool for a few uses, this might be your product.

Works, but very cheap! Wood handles caught on fire the first time they were used. Only haved used them once so far, don`t know how long they will last.

Take my advice, remove the handle first thing. It really serves no purpose. If you have to move the diffuser when it is hot, use some oven mitts.I bought this to use with a vacuum coffee pot on a gas stove. It works perfectly.I haven't needed to clean it, and I understand that if you do, it corrodes/rusts easily. That is strange for a supposed aluminum utensil, but if I do need to clean it, I will dry it immediately on the stove. If in the long run it does need to be replaced, at this price I can afford it!!

I purchased 2 of these. The handles were short, and the end of one was rough (never sanded at all). The handles were a bit wobbly and the metal collar at the flame end was too short. They both started to char the first time they were used. Now, a mere 34 days after receipt, the handle of one has fallen off, due to it being so charred. Useless! The return policy says it can be returned only sooner than 15 days, and if it was never used, for a 15% restocking fee plus shipping. We'll see if they will do better with this defect. Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe this was unusual, since both were basically alike.
