  • No, it cannot. The shelving unit would tilt, posing a risk of items falling.

  • The ceiling should be constructed of wooden beams or concrete. If wooden beams, the appropriate beam spacing is 12/16/24 inches. And the length of the axle is 71”, please make sure the beam is of sufficient length.

  • We sincerely recommend ceilings not exceeding 9 feet. The maximum length of the pole used for raising or lowering the deck is 4 feet, so if the ceiling is higher than 9 feet, you may need to stand on a ladder to reach the pole.

  • If the rope passes through the axle from below, it indicates an incorrect rotation direction of the pole. Please lower the wire deck to its lowest position and rotate the winding pole COUNTERCLOCKWISE to raise the deck.

  • Please ensure the following four points during installation: Was it installed using installation template? Is the ceiling level? Is the installation distance correct? Is the direction of the rotating handle correct?

Wow. This product was a lifesaver, well a back saver to be honest, but still, one of my most satisfying purchases I’ve made in years. I had originally chosen a similar product that was $79 more and appeared to be little more hefty, however, after placing my order I received two shipping delays weeks after paying and was advised it would ship in another month or so. I decided to cancel the order and clicked on the similar items tab below the order and I am so happy I did. This product was considerably less expensive and it shipped immediately, arriving the next day. The ropes are steel braided and encased in color coded plastic to help ensure that setup is correct. The entire product is very sturdy and lifts and lowers evenly and flawlessly. I tried the hand crank but using my cordless drill made it effortless. I have a fishing kayak and gear loaded in it which altogether weighs about 150lbs. This thing has made loading and unloading such a breeze as I simply back my truck up to where my tailgate is even with the deck and slide it in the bed and simply do the reverse when unloading. No more back pain and frustration! I used to avoid going on a day trip because of all the hassle but this thing has made it so effortless. Installation was simple as the template is precise. You simply need to locate your joists (studs) and tape it firmly to the ceiling using the supplied tape, which is very strong. It’s literally that easy. I have every bit of faith that this thing can hold the 300lbs as advertised and probably more. This is a solid product and has saved space AND made loading and unloading a breeze.

This is a great product. Really a thoughtful design. Definitely 5 stars and I may get another one for the other side of the garage. That said, it was a pain to install. A couple of notes here about my install process. Maybe it will help someone.- I agree with a previous reviewer that the 7/32 inch drill bet is the best size for the pilot holes--at least for the bolts that came with my kit. 0.2 inch (i.e. 13/64) would not be big enough.- I spent many hours on this project. More than I care to admit. The hardest thing by far was finding the ceiling joists and getting the template exactly in place. In the end, I never got it done in the normal way with the whole cardboard template intact. I ended up cutting off the long ends of the cardboard template and using them individually along the 2 joists that were 48 inches apart. That worked, but still took some extra effort. I had to redo the markings a couple times because they weren't lined up well enough. What worked best was measuring the edge of the template ends to the wall. It was just about 4' exactly for me, which allowed me to use a long leveler to get flush against the wall to come straight out from the wall. Not sure if that makes any sense, but maybe it will if you fight the battle. I'm not recommending you do it this way, it's just how I ended up doing it.- Putting up the template really should be a 2 person job (at least), but you need to get everyone on ladders or truck beds to be high enough to get it up there.- One thing I realized after-the-fact is how the cables come out in a triangular fashion from one side to the other. I didn't take that into consideration when mounting the ceiling brackets. So when the rack is fully let down, on of the cables goes right over one of my ceiling light fixtures such that I will need either a very low-profile lightbulb or maybe just replace it with a recessed fixture. That's a bummer and a project for another day, but I probably won't let it down all the way too often since I'm mainly using this as a Jeep hardtop hoist. So instead I may just remove the light bulb any time I need to let it down fully.Hope this helps. I found many of the other reviewers' comments helpful, so I wanted to provide some of my own. Good luck with installation. In the end, it's worth it!

Overall the installation was not too bad. Using the template was terrible. First the tape they give you is not strong enough, so use a stronger tape or be frustrated. I installed this by myself. Template was definitely a real struggle. Like others, I ended up cutting the template and just measured 4 ft and taped on the other piece of the template to determine the 4 corners. I used a laser to keep things centered. The only other gripe I have is I would never raise or lower this without a drill. The manual hand crank will take you forever. Leave the handle off and just use a drill to operate it.

I bought this on recommendation from a friend. Its purpose was to act as a hoist to lift my Jeep Wrangler’s hard top off. After mountain it to my ceiling, not only does it perform this task perfectly it also serves as a storage location for my Freedom tops (t-tops) and anything else I can fit on it.The mounting itself takes a little planning if your rafters don’t run the right direction. To solve for this I bought a 2x6 and bolted the pieces I cut to size to the rafters. Then the hardware to the wood. Worth the effort for sure.It came with a rod to crank the gear the lowers and raises the rack. I use my drill to act as a motor for the same function and it’s a fantastic option. Perfect way to avoid ladders, get things up off the ground and in my case, enables me to remove my Jeep top by myself. I’m using ratchet straps to keep the top connected to the rack itself and up it goes.Build quality is good for the gear, hardware and rack. Everything seems strong and left no concerns about integrity knowing this could fall on my vehicle if quality was not high enough. Size of the rack is probably just right to manage install and storage needs.
