Product Description

A maintenance and calibration tool that will be at home in every instrumentation technicians tool box, the Fluke 787 process meter"¢ combines a DMM and aâ loop calibratorâ in one rugged, handheld tool, for about what you would expect to pay for a loop calibrator alone. Based on the trusted Fluke 87 DMM, the 787 adds the ability to measure, source, and simulate DC loop current with 0.05 percent accuracy and 1 MA resolution.

From the Manufacturer

Fluke corporation is the world leader in the manufacture, distribution and service of electronic test tools and software. Since its founding in 1948, fluke has helped define and grow a unique technology market, providing testing and troubleshooting capabilities that have grown to mission critical status in manufacturing and service industries. As electrical systems grow more and more complex, spikes, transients, surges, and sudden over voltage events become more common. These can trigger a sequence of events that may lead to serious injury. This is why test equipment must be designed to protect people who work in this high-Voltage high-current environment. Now process technicians can do a lot more while carrying a lot less. The fluke 789 has a 24-Volt loop supply that reduces the need to take a separate power supply when doing offline transmitter testing. And with its built-in, selectable 250-ohm hart resistor, it also eliminates the need to carry a separate resistor with you. The fluke 789 processmeter simulates dc loop current with .05-Percent accuracy and 1-microamp resolution. The 789 has 25-Percent manual step plus auto step and auto ramp on ma output, 1200 ohm drive capability on ma source, and zero and 100 percent buttons to toggle between four and 20 ma sourcing for a quick span check. The 789 features a large dual display with enhanced backlight with 2 brightness settings, and weighs just over one pound (600 grams). The external accessible battery is easy for battery changes. The processmeter runs about 140 hours typical (measurement), 10 hours typical (sourcing 20 ma) on four aa 1.5-Volt alkaline batteries (included). Also included are the following: a quick reference guide, a manual, a set of ac70a alligator clips, and a tl75 safety-designed test lead set. The 789 meets 1000 volt en61010-1 cat iii standards and 600 volt en61010-1 cat iv standards, and passed a one meter drop test. The fluke 789 processmeter is sold one item per package.

Short of a logging HART calibration meter, you won't need any other meter to do your job if you are the automation and controls field. This meter does it all. Arrived quickly from the supplier and works perfectly. I like that the fuses are easily accessible now instead of having to tear the meter apart to get to them. I haven't had to do it yet thankfully but I wanted to prepare myself for that possibility should it happen.

Its a Fluke. While a tad pricey, it does multiple jobs that before, required separate devices. Namely 4-20mA loop simulation. Makes it very easy to diagnose a loop system.

What I like.... Its a Fluke, and I know I can trust it.What I dislike... The selector switch is not crisp and feels squishy (my old 87V is crisp), To access the battery, you will need a Torx driver (not sure why it does not have standard Phillips screws), and it takes AA batteries (Came with 3 Duracell, I changed them to Energizer Lithium, as Energizer claims their Lithium's will not leak, and if they do, they will repair or replace the product) .Would I purchase it again? Yes. The original Fluke 87V will most likely be my daily driver, (this one is a little bulkier), but when working outside near water and liquids, I will probably reach for this on with its water rating.

A very useful meter for process control. I can carry only one meter and do both 4-20 miliamps (measure, source and sink) and electrical testing. It is durable and rugged. Easy to see display. It can also do remote testing so I don't have to do arc flash protocol. My favorite meter.

I would have paid the extra 400 for a new one if I knew this would be the condition.
